Newcastle United named among favourites to sign Marcus Rashford as betting odds revealed

Newcastle United are among the Premier League sides linked with a move for Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford this summer.

The 28-year-old has spent the season on loan at Barcelona and thrived, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.

But the La Liga champions are set to pass up on the £30million option to buy and attempt to negotiate a cheaper deal with Man United.

Rashford is under contract at Old Trafford until 2028 and is desperate to secure a permanent move away from his boyhood club, following years of disgruntlement.

Newcastle transfer chiefs are reportedly monitoring the situation closely, with Anthony Gordon’s future to play a key role.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in April that Newcastle are keen to sign Rashford, with the former Aston Villa man seen as an ideal replacement for Gordon.

The former Everton forward is set to leave for big money this summer, with Bayern Munich currently leading the race.

The German champions have already made contact with Newcastle and are intent on signing the 25-year-old.

The Magpies need to sell this summer, and will be keen to take advantage of market opportunities.

Rashford could be one of them, but the winger will have to be convinced that a return to the Premier League is right for him after a season in Spain.

Any move will likely need to wait until after the World Cup, with the England international set to be a part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

One major bookmaker has handed Newcastle 4/1 odds of signing Rashford this summer, while Barcelona narrowly lead the race at 3/1.

Rashford already lit up St James’ Park

Rashford and Barcelona visited St James’ Park all the way back in September, and the 28-year-old made the pitch his.

The winger found the opener in the second half when he powered a header into the bottom corner, but it was his second which got people talking.

Rashford picked up the ball outside the Newcastle box and drove forward before unleashing a majestic strike that moved in the air and into the back of the net via the cross bar.

Eddie Howe looked bewildered on the touchline, but perhaps there was part of him wondering whether the forward could do the same in black and white next season.
