Player in limbo over Rangers transfer as internal discussions held - report
Rangers are facing an anxious wait over whether or not they can sign Cameron Archer from Southampton.
Ahead of the transfer window closing at 11pm on Monday, Rangers are trying to recruit Southampton striker Archer.
Danny Rohl’s side appear to now have an agreement in place to sign Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi, although he will not arrive at Ibrox until the summer.
Following Rangers’ disappointing goalless draw with Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, a result that saw them slip to third in the table, a transfer development has emerged.
Unfortunately for Rangers fans, this Archer deal appears to be very much out of their control as they seek to bolster their attack for the second half of the season.
Rangers’ move for Cameron Archer hinges on Premier League deals
Following Rangers’ 0-0 draw with Hibernian on Sunday, manager Rohl gave little away over the club’s transfer plans.
However, it is said that the German is keen on bringing in a striker before the transfer window slams shut.
And, according to Sky Sports, initial discussions with Southampton over a loan deal for Archer had progressed well.

But, that move could be scuppered if teammate Adam Armstrong moves to Premier League basement side Wolves.
The report adds that there could be a “knock-on effect” should Jean-Philippe Mateta not swap Crystal Palace for AC Milan, which, in turn, could impact Jorgen Strand Larsen’s move to the Eagles from Wolves.
If that happens, an Armstrong transfer could fall apart, hence why Sky state Archer’s move to Rangers is “hanging in the balance”.
Why Rangers need more firepower in attack
After 24 Scottish Premiership games, Rangers have scored 37 goals – a feat bettered by league leaders Hearts, second-placed Celtic, and fifth-placed Hibernian.
Indeed, it is telling that Rangers’ attack has not been firing when right-back and captain James Tavernier is their top scorer with six league goals.
Forward Youssef Chermiti is joint-second on four goals with defender Emmanuel Fernandez and midfielder Thelo Aasgaard.
Attackers Danilo and Bojan Miovski have three apiece but if they want to win their first league title since 2021, Rangers may need more quality up front.
All eyes will be on whether or not Rangers can bring in a new addition before the window slams shut in just over 24 hours.
