Rangers chief leaves after four months in charge, interim appointed - report

Rangers have parted ways with chief commercial officer David French.

The former CEO of Aviv Stadium was appointed at the Gers in December but leaves the club after just a few months in the role.

Fraser Thornton will fill the role on an interim basis, with Andrew Cavenagh set to assess his options after the boardroom shakeup, according to Chris Jack.

The Light Blues have found a period of stability after sacking Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell towards the end of November, but it remains to be seen how the latest departure will affect them.

Cavenagh has learned from his mistakes at Ibrox and made some astute decisions in recent months, and fans will be confident in his ability to get the right person into the building.

Andrew Cavenagh makes unorthodox calls at Rangers

Before the winter transfer window, Cavenagh appointed Stig Inge Bjornebye as a consultant to fill the void of a sporting director.

The Norwegian has advised the Gers chairman on recruitment and other aspects in recent months, which has clearly paid off as the Govan side compete for the William Hill Premiership title.

Bjornebye is set to stay at Ibrox for the foreseeable future and the American owners at the Light Blues don’t intend to replace Thelwell for now.

It will be interesting to see how Cavenagh goes about filling the chief commercial officer vacancy at the Glaswegian outfit.

The American consortium that took over in G51 back in May started with a massive stumble, but have shown encouraging signs since then.

Danny Rohl gives Andrew Cavenagh new lifeline

Things could have gone from bad to worse for Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises at Rangers had they not been able to stop the rot in Govan.

Fans quickly turned on Russell Martin at Ibrox, and rightly so, after one of the Gers’ worst starts to a league campaign, with Stewart and Thelwell unable to recover from that ridicule.

The next stop on the supporters’ train of fury would surely have been the American consortium if Danny Rohl’s appointment turned out to be another disaster.

Thankfully for them, the German manager has worked miracles at the Glaswegian outfit and could do what was once deemed impossible by winning the league title this season.
