Report shares when Matondo medical could possibly take place, contract details mooted

Rangers forward Rabbi Matondo is yet to undergo his medical at SK Brann ahead of the Norwegian transfer deadline on Tuesday.

The Bergen club hope to finalise a deal for the Wales international before 31 March.

Matondo will leave Ibrox on a free transfer, with three months remaining on his current contract, but the Light Blues will include potential bonuses and a hefty sell-on clause to sanction his departure, according to Record Sport.

The news outlet reports on 28 March that the winger is expected to sign a deal with the Eliteserien side lasting until November, when the Norwegian league ends.

Danny Rohl has hardly used Matondo since being appointed at the Glaswegian outfit and it makes sense to part ways with him even at this stage of the season, with the title left to play for.

Rabbi Matondo does the right thing after what’s happened away from Rangers

Matondo is a part of Craig Bellamy’s side for the March international break, but was dropped from the final Wales squad to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the semi-final of the World Cup play-offs.

The forward must now recognise that his lack of game time has affected his prospects for the national side and wants to leave the Gers.

Matondo’s record at the Gers this season

Fans in G51 have wanted to see the 25-year-old off the Light Blues’ books for a few years now and he’ll surely find more opportunities in Norway.

The Glaswegian outfit signed the winger from Schalke 04 for £2.5 million in 2022, and he’s made 41 league appearances for them since, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists.

Going into the final stretch of the campaign, Rohl has plenty of options on the wings, like Mikey Moore, Oliver Antman, Djeidi Gassama, Andreas Skov Olsen and Nedim Bajrami to count on.

Andrew Cavenagh must offload another expensive mistake at Ibrox

Oscar Cortes has been a failure at Rangers, joining Huracan on loan in January after returning from Sporting Gijon prematurely.

The Colombian forward cost the Gers £4.5m last summer and it’s safe to say it’s been one of their worst deals in a long while.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have backed Rohl with some impressive signings, but they also need to offload some of the deadwood in the summer.

With Matondo on his way out, maybe the Glaswegian outfit are making room for some new signings for the 2026-27 season.
