View: Everton player will surely submit transfer request if Moyes signs new contract

Adam Aznou may be finished already at Everton if David Moyes signs a new contract at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees signed the Moroccan left-back from Bayern Munich last summer, but he has failed to win the Scottish manager’s trust, making just one appearance for the senior side, which came in the FA Cup.

The Friedkin Group want to reward Moyes with fresh terms, and rightly so, as the Blues have made significant progress under him since Sean Dyche’s departure.

With the defender seemingly not part of the 62-year-old head coach’s plans in L4, it would make sense for him to submit a transfer request in the summer.

Aznou’s future at Hill Dickinson Stadium feels set in stone if the Scot continues to take charge of the Merseyside outfit and his situation will be worth watching closely in the coming months.

Vitalii Mykolenko has been the first-choice left-back for Moyes this season and while Aznou can surely reconcile being behind him in the pecking order, the reality is much different.

The 19-year-old hasn’t been given opportunities even when the Ukraine international has been unavailable, with James Garner and Jarrad Branthwaite playing out of position on occasions at left-back.

It must be infuriating for the young defender to see his development stall at the Toffees after leaving Bayern.

Aznou must have surely thought he was taking the right step for his career by joining the Blues, but the move has backfired.

The Morocco youth international will undoubtedly be looking for pastures new at the end of the season, but it remains to be seen whether he leaves on loan or permanently.

David Moyes has clear summer transfer priority at Hill Dickinson Stadium

Mykolenko’s current contract at Everton expires in June, with no official confirmation on any extension yet.

If the left-back does leave the Toffees as a free agent and Aznou also decides he’s had enough, Moyes will surely have to prioritise some defensive reinforcements in the summer.

Seamus Coleman will also be a free agent at the end of the season, leaving the recruitment department in L4 with much to think about.

The Scottish manager may need a strong squad next season, with quality backups at every position, if the Merseysiders qualify for Europe.
