Rohl makes transfer deadline day admission amid 'very dark' Rangers claim

Rangers boss Danny Rohl is not ruling out any deadline day transfers as the winter window enters its final 24 hours.

Rangers’ statement signing was Andreas Skov Olsen last month, with Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens also coming through the Ibrox door.

However, Rangers may miss out on Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi before the 2 February transfer window deadline, despite repeated efforts to recruit him.

As frustration builds over their inability to bring in extra quality for the second half of the season, many Rangers fans were left feeling dejected after a goalless draw at Hibernian.

Despite this setback, which saw them fall six points behind league leaders Hearts, manager Rohl is staying positive, while making a transfer deadline day confession.

Danny Rohl reflects on Hibernian draw and transfer plans

Rangers dropped to third in the Scottish Premiership table after their 0-0 draw at Hibernian, coupled with Celtic’s 2-0 win over Falkirk on Sunday.

Rohl’s side are now level on points with their bitter rivals, but Celtic are ahead on goals scored, while Hearts maintain a healthy cushion at the top.

Following the Easter Road contest, former Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl gave little away over what Rangers have in store before the transfer window shuts on Monday night.

And despite being fortunate to come away with a point against Hibernian, the German believes his side are on the up and was determined to stop this draw from making “everything very dark” for the Gers.

Rohl said after the game: “First, we will see what happens tomorrow. If something happens, I’m happy. If not, I carry on with my group. They have done a good job so far, this is our job to do.

In general, I think I have a clear picture in my mind. I saw a group that was growing and growing together. And what I will not do today after this draw is to make everything very dark.

I think this is also part of this race. It’s an exciting one. We are still in the race. No one expected a couple of weeks ago we would have this with this group.”

Indeed, Rangers had won six in a row in the league, so this is far from the end of the world.

What can Rangers fans expect on transfer deadline day?

Before the transfer window shuts, Rohl is said to be keen on adding a new striker to his ranks, with Southampton forward Cameron Archer very much on the club’s radar.

However, that may be scuppered by Wolves’ proposed move for Southampton number nine, Adam Armstrong.

An Armstrong departure would leave Championship side Saints short in attack, so Rangers may have to look elsewhere.

Rangers done deals

Due to the 49ers Enterprises’ connection with Rangers and Leeds United, speculation has mounted that Joel Piroe could head to Ibrox for the second half of the season.

But as Leeds look set to miss out on Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, it seems unlikely that the Yorkshire outfit would green-light a Piroe exit – even though he is behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha in the attacking pecking order.

Either way, an intriguing last day of the transfer window lies ahead.
