‘Sacked tonight’ – Birmingham City fans say the same thing about Chris Davies dismissal

Birmingham City fans have called for the sacking of Chris Davies after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic left them 12th in the Championship.

Charlie Kelman’s second-half goal was enough to condemn the Blues to a third consecutive league defeat, on a run in which they have scored just one goal in three games.

Davies had been under pressure earlier in the season, but looked to have turned a corner after a positive January transfer window.

Birmingham were unbeaten for 10 consecutive games across all competitions, and looked to be back on the charge towards the play-offs.

But an eight-point gap has now been opened up by sixth-placed Wrexham, and that advantage will be extended if they win their game in hand.

Birmingham fans incensed by Charlton defeat

Football Insider exclusively revealed in December that Birmingham considered sacking Davies, but ultimately decided to stick with their manager.

The 40-year-old was appointed in 2024 and took his side up by topping League One with a stunning record tally of 111 points.

In what was his 100th game in charge of the Blues on Saturday, however, Davies’ side lacked all of the exciting attacking potency that had featured in his first season.

Birmingham looked rudderless, taking just one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes against a Charlton side who had been without a win in their previous four games.

Decision-makers at St Andrew’s have been insistent on backing Davies this season, despite the issues.

The outcry of the Birmingham fans after Saturday’s dismal defeat is set to test that patience, however, with several calling for a decision to be made.

“There is surely no way anyone thinks they’ve seen enough this season to believe we’re actually going to get any better next year under Davies? He absolutely has to go now, for the good of the club,” wrote one fan on social media.

Another simply wrote: “All the best for the future, Chris. Thanks for last season”. Others shared a similar sentiment, responding with phrases like: “Sack him tonight.”

X user Carl wrote: “Unacceptable performance, fingers crossed he is gone end of the season, doesn’t deserve another window of talent to ruin”.

When could Davies be sacked?

Birmingham are set to return to St Andrew’s for their next two matches, against QPR and Sheffield United.

Should the Blues fail to win either, an atmosphere will likely be created that outweighs any remaining faith in Davies.

The 40-year-old will retain some hope that a positive end to the season can secure his place in the dugout next season, but he will need to lead a rapid turnaround.

Decision-makers will be aware that Birmingham are easily safe on their return to the Championship, but they will also hope to see some return for their investment. Especially with Wrexham situated above.
