Scott McDermott says Rangers aren't 'finished article' despite £12m winter splurge, more needed

Rangers fans have started to believe that their winter transfer business could help Danny Rohl get over the line in the race for the Scottish Premiership.

The German head coach welcomed multiple new faces to Glasgow, with Ryan Naderi’s late Ibrox arrival topping off what many feel was a successful window.

Rangers are well-positioned in the hunt for the title, and the Bears have added recruits to defence, midfield, and attack.

But Scott McDermott has a feeling that it might not be enough for the Gers to overcome the odds.

Scott McDermott says Rangers still lack creativity in attack

Rangers play Kilmarnock next in the league on Wednesday, where Ibrox could see Naderi make his debut.

Tuur Rommens is still unavailable, but Rohl will be hoping the left-back can soon provide Jayden Meghoma with competition.

Andreas Skov Olsen and Tochi Chukwuani have each made their debuts for the Bears, and it may only be a matter of time before Rangers gel even more with Rohl’s new signings.

However, while writing for the Daily Record, McDermott elaborated on why he thinks the 49ers missed an opportunity to add another attacking spark for the Gers.

McDermott wrote: “The fact they’re even in this title race, given what happened under Russell Martin, is remarkable. But there’s every chance they’ll still come up short this term.

“Rohl’s side aren’t the finished article yet. Far from it. Despite a promising £12 million January transfer window splurge, they’re still lacking in creativity and guile in the final third of the pitch.

“There’s more work to do in the summer.

Rangers spent around £12.3million this window, and McDermott’s claim could age like wine or milk.

Out of Rangers’ new signings, who will hit the ground running first?

Assuming Rommens may not make his debut for a couple more games yet, Naderi could be the next up for his bow.

Chukwuani seems to have settled into the midfield nicely and has shown his qualities, particularly in winning the ball back and getting the Gers moving up the pitch.

Skov Olsen was the marquee signing of the window, so all eyes will be on the winger to perform – and fast, with more needed already.

He’s never played for a club like Rangers before, and with stakes at an all-time high, he will either sink or swim.

Naderi comes with a big expectation too, but the German isn’t necessarily promised a consistent starting spot in Rohl’s starting eleven like Skov Olsen, considering Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski are still around.

Time will tell, but the transfers have certainly edged the Bears closer to where they want to be.
