Sources: Crystal Palace could hand sacked manager immediate Premier League return

Liam Rosenior could be handed an immediate return to the Premier League after leaving Chelsea with Crystal Palace keen, sources have told Football Insider.

The 41-year-old was dismissed in the wake of a 3-0 defeat to Brighton, with stories now emerging about dressing room unrest, as he appeared set up to fail.

Meanwhile, Oliver Glasner announced in January that he would leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season, leading the club to begin considering their options.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, sources say Palace chiefs were impressed by Rosenior’s work at Strasbourg and Hull City.

Rosenior’s Strasbourg side triumphed over the Eagles in the Conference League this season, and their interest has lingered, with Palace and Chelsea looking for new managers.

Could Liam Rosenior join Crystal Palace?

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in December that Rosenior is a target for Crystal Palace as they seek to replace Glasner.

Brown represented Hull City during his playing days and has retained close contacts there, all of whom speak very highly of Rosenior’s management on and off the pitch.

There are doubts about whether Rosenior would be willing to return to the Premier League so soon after his dismissal, but Crystal Palace could look to tempt him back in.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “It is interesting, because with the Palace links, it came after Palace played Strasbourg in the Conference League.

“Strasbourg won that game, Palace felt they probably should have won it, but Rosenior, the way his side set up was really impressive.

“Palace took note of that and were looking at him potentially to replace Oliver Glasner, they were very interested and liked what they saw from him there and at Hull City.

“But there have been suggestions that he will take time out of football after leaving Chelsea, so that could force Palace to look elsewhere.

“It will certainty be one to watch for Palace, if not now then probably for the future.”

Who else is in line to become the next Crystal Palace manager?

Rosenior is not the only manager Crystal Palace have identified in their efforts to replace Glasner, with multiple top bosses already on their radar.

Getafe boss Jose Bordalas and Raya Vallecano’s Inigo Perez both rank highly on their list, while Frank Lampard has become a target thanks to his work with Coventry.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed in January that Crystal Palace are keen on Andoni Iraola, and he has emerged as a leading candidate to become their next manager.

Iraola has since announced that he will be leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season, placing Palace on alert as they hope to lure him to Selhurst Park.

However, he is also believed to be a target for Chelsea in their search to replace Rosenior, with Newcastle also keen if they decide to part ways with Eddie Howe.
