Sources: Liverpool on alert over Mbappe amid Real Madrid fallout - 'It'd be Huge'

Kylian Mbappe is attracting renewed interest from a number of Premier League clubs including Liverpool amid the fallout at Real Madrid, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old has been involved in a number of clashes between staff and teammates behind the scenes at Los Blancos, leading to suggestions of major departures.

During this period of unrest at the Bernabeu, a petition has been published for the striker to leave Madrid, which has now been signed over 30 million times.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on Mbappe in case he is allowed to leave.

While it is currently considered unlikely that the France superstar will be moved on, the super-rich English sides are on alert, and he could become a transfer target for Liverpool.

Could Liverpool agree a deal for Kylian Mbappe?

Football Insider reported back in 2023 that Liverpool were interested in signing Mbappe before he made the move to Real Madrid on a free from Paris Saint-Germain.

While a number of English clubs had looked into signing the forward, a move to Los Blancos was the only one in his mind, but that may now have turned sour.

Alongside what has been a turbulent season on the pitch, issues behind the scenes have raised major concerns, with Mbappe involved in many of the clashes.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I’m sure they would love the chance to try and Kylian Mbappe, undoubtedly one of the world’s best players.

“Obviously, there’s been a bit of furore around Mbappe because he’s had a bit of an up and down season and there’s a lot going on at Real Madrid right now.

“He would be a dream signing for the Premier League because he’s still the biggest star probably in football right now. It would be great to see him in the Premier League.

“It would be a huge financial outlay as well for any club if they were looking to sign Mbappe. Transfer fee, wages all included, there’s only a certain few clubs who could afford that.

“If the door does open for Mbappe, you would expect all the Premier League big-guns to try and lure him away because that opportunity to sign a player like Mbappe doesn’t come around too often.”

Why would Liverpool want to sign Mbappe?

As one of the Premier League’s biggest spenders, having broken the transfer record twice last summer, the Reds are among a select few who could afford Mbappe.

Alongside his obvious superstar status and incredible goalscoring exploits, Liverpool are also in need of a new striker this summer amid concerns about their current options.

Football Insider revealed on 17 April that Liverpool are planning to sign a new striker with Hugo Ekitike set to be ruled out until 2027 with an Achilles tendon injury.

Meanwhile, record signing Alexander Isak has endured a slow start to life at Anfield with inconsistent form and fitness impacting his move from Newcastle.

The Reds are assessing a number of potential striker signings as a result, and while they are unlikely to spend big, Mbappe’s potential availability could be hard to pass up.
