Sources: Man United delay next manager decision as 'alarm bells ringing' over Carrick
Manchester United are reluctant to make a knee-jerk decision over whether Michael Carrick will be their next manager and will remain patient, sources have told Football Insider.
This comes despite growing suggestions that Michael Carrick should no longer be the favourite for the role in the wake of their 2-1 defeat against Leeds United.
United have now won just one of their last four games, leading to questions being asked of their performances and whether the interim boss is the right option.
Despite this, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Man United remain keen to take their time over a final decision.
Carrick remains the favourite to land the position, as the club will not change their stance based on one frustrating defeat as Man United continue to consider their next manager.

Do Man United have doubts about Michael Carrick?
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Man United are having “doubts” about Carrick with new worries creeping in.
The interim boss had been the leading contender to extend his spell in the dugout beyond the end of the season, but recent results have led to concerns.

A number of options remain on the list of targets to become the next Man United manager, and while Carrick remains the favourite, a decision will not be made yet.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Obviously it was a disappointing result and performance and will have set alarm bells ringing inside the Old Trafford hierarchy.
“I’m sure they’ll be confident they can go on and clinch that place in the Champions League.
“United won’t rush into any decision. They’ll obviously evaluate everything.
“I don’t think the United hierarchy will make a knee-jerk reaction just off one defeat on Carrick’s situation.
“I would still say he’s clear favourite for the role as well, but I don’t think United will be rushing into making anything that will look at all options and that remains the case right now.”
Who else is on Man United’s manager shortlist?
Despite the fact Carrick remains in a strong position to land the permanent Man United job, the club are still assessing a number of big-name targets.
The likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner continue to be linked with the role, with all three potentially becoming available this summer.

However, with doubts creeping in over Carrick’s position, Football Insider reported that odds have been slashed on Julian Nagelsmann to land the full-time role.
The boss currently has his sights set on the World Cup where he will manage Germany, but there is a growing feeling he could become available after the finals.
He also enjoys a strong relationship with Man United’s director of recruitment Christopher Vivell, who he worked with during his time at RB Leipzig.
