Sources: Tottenham lay groundwork for late January signings after deal already completed

Thomas Frank is planning more additions in the January transfer window to further strengthen his squad after the arrival of Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher was signed from Atletico Madrid for a fee of around £35million, as the club moved quickly to beat rivals Aston Villa to his signature.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Spurs are hopeful of a busy end to the transfer window as they continue to strengthen.

Frank’s position is under extreme pressure following Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham last time out, but the board are sticking with him as things stand.

If they can add to and improve their squad in the window’s closing stages, there is hope the new arrivals could contribute to a change in their fortunes.

Tottenham hope for busy end to the January transfer window

Football Insider revealed in November that Tottenham want a striker and a winger in the mid-season window amid concerns about their current options.

Injuries to the likes of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus have raised further concerns, and they could now be forced into the market.

Frank has ruled out departures for exit-linked players given their current lack of depth, and is now hopeful of bolstering his squad in the coming days and weeks.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Right now Spurs don’t want to let anybody go, they’ve already seen Brennan Johnson leave to join Crystal Palace.

“That’s weakened their squad, and they’ve had injury problems all season, James Maddison has been out long-term, Kulusevski has been out long-term.

“Tottenham are more interested in strengthening their squad rather than weakening it right now. They’ve obviously brought in Conor Gallagher.

As things stand, Thomas Frank doesn’t want to lose anybody in his squad because he needs them if he is to try and turn around their fortunes.

Thomas Frank sack update emerges at Tottenham

Football Insider revealed on 10 January that Frank could be sacked by Tottenham if his side fail to beat West Ham after losing against Aston Villa.

As a result, Frank‘s position has become untenable after Tottenham lost 2-1 to West Ham last time out, meaning they have now won just three of their last 15 games.

Chants of “sacked in the morning” rang out from the home supporters against West Ham, while there have been suggestions the players are not performing for him.

Football Insider revealed on 16 January that Mauricio Pochettino is open to returning to Tottenham and would not rule out taking the job if it was on offer.

Tottenham have been keeping tabs on his situation, while the boss has “never hidden” his willingness to return to the club where he remains highly regarded.
