Sterling opens deadline day talks for free transfer after wage demands mooted at Everton
Raheem Sterling emerged as a potential option for Everton ahead of deadline day.
Sterling has been linked to Everton after Chelsea called time on the winger’s contract after failing to make an appearance this campaign.
The ex-England international has featured in the so-called “bomb squad” at Stamford Bridge in recent months, but has finally made his exit.
The 31-year-old is now open to a free transfer and is likely to have a wide range of options on the table for the rest of the season.
Sterling could see an Everton switch materialise in the coming days or weeks, but has now opened up contract negotiations elsewhere.
Raheem Sterling enters talks over transfer after Chelsea exit
Everton may be a top landing destination for Sterling should he want to challenge himself once again in the Premier League.
The wideman scored just one goal last campaign for Arsenal and seriously struggled for regular minutes under Mikel Arteta while on loan.

There is likely to be a focus towards game time for the ex-Liverpool man ahead of his next move, although that isn’t a guarantee.
That comes after Sterling emerged as a target for Super Lig side Samsunspor after his Chelsea exit was confirmed.
Online outlet Haberler reported during deadline day on Tuesday that the Turkish side have opened started negotiations over a free transfer for the Englishman.
Samsunspor are “preparing to make the transfer of the year” and are seemingly keen on bringing the four-time Premier League winner to Turkyie.
Everton could pay £192,000-a-week wage to Sterling
There is every chance that Samsunspor can offer sizable wages to the former Chelsea star, but the Toffees may still throw their hat in the ring.
Former Everton scout Bryan King previously told Goodison News that wages of £192k-a-week could be on the cards for Sterling on Merseyside.
He said: “If he were to join Everton for six months, he’d be on a decent package.

“Even a bit-part player costs £5m nowadays, so if he can get a package around that value for six months, he’d be very happy.“
It would be interesting to know where Sterling’s preferred destination would be and how long he is willing to hold out for the right move.
