Alan Myers shares what his Italian contact says about Everton signing Brooke Norton-Cuffy before 7pm

Everton have repeatedly linked with a move for Genoa star Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

As the winter transfer window ticks down, Everton seem poised to sign Chelsea forward Tyrique George on loan.

This comes days after news emerged that Everton loanee Jack Grealish would miss the rest of the season through injury, potentially ending the Manchester City man’s chances of making England’s World Cup squad this summer.

But to many Everton fans, David Moyes’ men need more quality across the pitch as they aim to secure European football next season.

Former Chelsea and Arsenal academy player Norton-Cuffy has been on the Toffees’ radar for weeks now but this pursuit may go no further.

Everton given definitive answer over Brooke Norton-Cuffy

For much of the winter window, Everton have been linked with Norton-Cuffy, as have Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus.

After English Football League loan spells with Lincoln City, Rotherham United, and Millwall, Norton-Cuffy left Arsenal and joined Genoa permanently in 2024.

The decision has proven to be the right one, with the right-back impressing at the Serie A outfit, particularly this season.

The 22-year-old, whose contract runs until 2029, is in demand but journalist Alan Myers states that Norton-Cuffy is going nowhere this window.

The defender, who won the Under-21 European Championships with England last summer, has played 23 times this season for Genoa, scoring one goal in the process.

He has already surpassed his appearance tally from last term, with the youngster featuring 14 times in 2024-25.

It might seem premature for him to secure a move to a big club but if he keeps up his form, that may become an inevitability in the summer.

Lack of Everton signings explained

So far, Everton had done very little in the winter transfer window.

After moving into their new Hill Dickinson Stadium at the start of the season, it seems owners, The Friedkin Group, are reticent to splash the cash in this window.

Moreover, Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye are back from AFCON and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jarrad Branthwaite have returned from injury.

As a result, financial expert Dan Plumley can understand Everton’s current strategy in the market.

He exclusively told Goodison News: “I think the surprise comes from the fact that they’ve not looked to bolster with maybe a couple of reinforcements. I think it’s one of those where they’re now looking more towards the medium to long term, which is absolutely the right thing to do.

European football has been tantalising this season because that is the long-term aim, but you wouldn’t expect to get there quickly. That’s probably where some of the narratives come from.

Never say never, we’re still a few days out from the end of the window, but it stacks up with them planning for the future.”

That has not stopped Everton from trying to sign Fulham’s Harry Wilson, although the Cottagers have rebuffed any interest.

Everton sit ninth in the Premier League and it seems they may be content with the options at Moyes’ disposal. Indeed, they are just two points behind Brentford in seventh, a position that could secure European football next term.
