Tottenham player’s casual relegation statement proves dressing room has turned toxic
Tottenham Hotspur‘s dressing room culture has truly turned toxic, judging by a player’s nonchalant comment on the club’s relegation crisis this season.
Spurs are teetering just a point above the Premier League’s bottom three, and morale is at an all-time low following the 5-2 defeat by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Igor Tudor’s appointment has only worsened the situation, with the Croatian interim boss losing all four of his matches since replacing Thomas Frank in the dugout.
A daunting trip to Liverpool awaits on Sunday and a loss could plunge the club into the drop zone, but some members of the squad haven’t grasped the reality of the situation.

What has one Tottenham player said about relegation?
After the thrashing by Atletico, Micky van de Ven admitted Spurs are stuck in a “doomsday situation”, and the sheer weight of the pressure was visible on his shoulders.
Some team-mates, however, appear to be much more blasé – an insult to supporters.
According to The Athletic, one unnamed player has openly admitted that he is “not too concerned by the possibility of relegation because he believes he can and will leave the club”.
While Tottenham are, of course, better off without passengers not wholly committed to their plight, they cannot make the sweeping changes required until the summer.
Tudor has certainly not got the best out of his squad, having adopted a hard-line man-management approach that has shattered confidence, but he is not solely to blame.
Van de Ven’s comments proved Tottenham aren’t ready for a relegation fight, but the mystery player’s casual mood while the ceiling collapses shows the rot has set in deep.
Spurs need cultural reboot – but must stay up first
The fragile mentality of Spurs’ bruised players was on display for all to see as they shipped three goals in the opening 17 minutes at the Metropolitano, but there are no easy solutions.
Ultimately, the buck stops with the hierarchy, whose decision to bring in Tudor despite his abrasive reputation has been as misguided as their initial appointment of Frank.
Antonin Kinsky was horribly fed to the wolves after his double error against Atletico, but others around him looked just as lost, lacking the backbone needed in a crisis of his size.

It is clear, then, that a clearout is needed from top to bottom, but the process cannot begin until Spurs discover what fate awaits in their scrap for Premier League survival.
The situation is truly desperate and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
