Tottenham ready move for £52m midfielder who oozes Pep Guardiola DNA

Tottenham desperately need midfield reinforcements in the closing stages of the winter transfer window.

Spurs are having a dreadful season in the Premier League, sitting 14th in the table, having won just one of their last seven top-flight games.

The immense sack pressure on Thomas Frank was lifted slightly as Tottenham beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Frank’s side have moved up to fourth in the league phase of the competition, and are now in a great position to advance straight through to the last 16.

Tottenham in race with Man United for Felix Nmecha

Cristian Romero fired Frank’s side into an early lead against Dortmund, and their task was made considerably easier when Daniel Svensson was dismissed for a late challenge just 24 minutes into the contest.

Dominic Solanke then doubled Tottenham’s advantage with an inventive flick into the far corner, after good work from Wilson Odobert.

Away from the on-pitch action, BILD are reporting that the North London outfit are keeping tabs on one of the Dortmund midfielders from Tuesday night, Felix Nmecha.

Nmecha struggled to make an impact against Spurs with his side down to 10 men for the majority of the game, but that hasn’t deterred Tottenham.

Frank’s side are reportedly considering a move for the 25-year-old, and are joined in the race for his signature by Manchester United.

Dortmund are keen to hang onto Nmecha, though, and won’t consider any offers below £52m (€60m).

Felix Nmecha came through Man City academy

Nmecha, younger brother of Leeds striker Lukas, is a product of the Manchester City academy, having joined back in 2007 at the age of seven.

The Dortmund midfielder progressed through the ranks and was handed his senior debut by Pep Guardiola in 2019, in the League Cup semi-final against Burton Albion.

He was released by City in the summer of 2021, spending two years at Wolfsburg before moving to Dortmund ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Nmecha is thriving under Niko Kovac this season and has already scored five goals across all competitions, including a brace against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.

He would provide a unique skillset to Tottenham’s midfield, but it will be an incredibly hard deal for Frank’s side to pull off in the winter window.
