Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke exit stance revealed as Newcastle plot summer swoop

Tottenham Hotspur are set to make life difficult for Newcastle United if they launch a move to try to sign striker Dominic Solanke this summer.

The Magpies have identified the 28-year-old as one of their summer targets to come in and strengthen their attacking options, but it has quickly become apparent that a deal is unlikely to come easily for them.

Eddie Howe is keen to reunite with the England hopeful, having previously worked with him during their time together at Bournemouth, but Solanke is currently playing a key role for Spurs in their fight against the drop.

Newcastle’s transfer plans are already being drawn up for the upcoming window, and the former Chelsea academy product has already been earmarked as a possible candidate to join the squad.

Tottenham set clear Dominic Solanke plan, regardless of relegation

Tottenham are currently staring down the barrel of an embarrassing relegation, as they are now sitting just one point above the drop zone after the midweek round of fixtures.

Interim manager Igor Tudor is already under significant pressure, having tasted defeat in all three of his opening encounters in the dugout, and speculation is rife at the moment as to which players could move on in the summer.

Solanke has hit five goals from just 14 appearances for the Lilywhites this term, and was always likely to draw interest from elsewhere, despite his injury-hit campaign.

However, according to the Daily Mail, he is seen as being a key part of Spurs’ plans, and the North London outfit are understood to be hopeful of keeping him, even if they drop into the Championship at the end of the season.

The effects of a relegation would be catastrophic for Tottenham, both on and off the pitch, and Newcastle will be hoping that they become financially dependent on selling some big players, leaving the door open for them to do a deal.

Nicolas Jackson is also among Newcastle striker targets

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Newcastle should be wary of signing Nicolas Jackson this summer, given his lack of consistency in front of goal.

The 24-year-old Chelsea striker has spent the season on loan at Bayern Munich, but is set to be sold by the Blues this summer, and that has piqued Newcastle’s interest in recent weeks.

Brown revealed that Chelsea could potentially ask for a fee of around £70million in order for a deal to be reached, and he made it clear that the Magpies could get significantly better options for that level of outlay.

With that in mind, a move for Jackson looks unlikely at the moment, and that perhaps increases the need to try and tempt Tottenham into doing business over Solanke.
