Thierno Barry was recalled to lead Everton’s attack with Beto unavailable for the Toffees against West Ham.
Beto has been in remarkable form, scoring nine Premier League goals since the turn of 2026. His exploits in front of goal have boosted the Blues’ European hopes.
Barry, however, has struggled to make an impact when given the chance. Besides a purple patch from the end of December to the end of January, where he scored four goals in five games, it has been nothing but frustrating for Everton fans to watch.
As the season comes to an end, David Moyes will undoubtedly be keeping watch on which players will be part of his plans.
Unfortunately for the French striker, ahead of Everton’s summer window, he may have started his final game for the Toffees.

Thierno Barry lacked a lot of quality against West Ham
Everton had plenty of chances to put the game to bed against West Ham but ultimately failed to capitalise.
It was a game highlighted by poor finishing choices and a failure to showcase true quality. With Barry perhaps being the epitome of that fact.
Thierno Barry’s poor finishing for Everton (Premier League) Total xG underperformance -0.82 Big chances missed 10 Games per goal ratio 5.6
Barry will not be able to hide behind any excuse when it comes to not receiving chances. In truth, the striker had two excellent opportunities inside the box, but his own quality let him down.
Those two chances amounted to 0.68 xG, but due to poor finishing, the expected goals on target were marked down as 0.00, as per Sofascore.
That level of difference highlights a poor finisher, and it has long been the case throughout this campaign, with the striker having fewer goals (six) than his total xG accumulated (6.82).
It was a performance from the 23-year-old that will do little to improve his reputation but do quite a lot in reducing it. Barry also failed to complete a single dribble at London Stadium, leaving him with zero percent success.
With just four games left this season, and Beto expected to be back after following concussion protocols, Barry may have floundered in his final chance for Everton.

Barry was also involved in further controversy in the game too. Everton should have received a penalty when Mateus Fernandes grappled the striker before handling the ball.
David Moyes needs to be braver with team selections
Barry coming in for Beto was the easy selection decision for Moyes, but he had other options to go with.
Iliman Ndiaye can play down the middle, and the Senegalese winger at least offers more quality in the final third.
Tyrique George could then have taken his place out wide, adding more dynamism to the Everton attack. The Blues are now in an uphill battle to save their European hopes.

There is still time for Everton to move up the table, with the margins still incredibly tight, but Moyes must take that risk.
There is little for the Blues to lose now, but everything to gain. Barry has not proved to be good enough, and if Everton are forced into an attacking change, there are plenty of other options at the manager’s disposal.
