Archie Gray has been a rare bright spark in a terrible season for Tottenham Hotspur.

The utility man has been a useful asset since completing his £30million move from Leeds United in the summer of 2024.

Having featured in midfield, centre-back and full-back, various Spurs bosses have certainly used the Englishman wherever possible.

The 20-year-old needs to be playing more regularly in his preferred central position, and if he does, he could help change the Lilywhites’ fortunes.

Gray will have his eyes on a senior England call-up, a hope that will be echoed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium moving forward.

Spurs are having a terrible season, and even with Roberto De Zerbi coming in, it would take a massive effort to avoid relegation.

Failure has become the norm in N17, with the “Spursy” tag only quietening down months after the Europa League victory, despite having plenty of major honours historically.

Ange Postecoglou was sacked for his efforts, and his departure has certainly played its part in a free fall down the Premier League table.

Even with these struggles, Dominic Solanke and Djed Spence have both earned call-ups to the England national team from Thomas Tuchel.

The latter contributed to Tottenham’s 58 players making their debut for the Three Lions while playing for the North London club.

Spurs sit five behind leaders Aston Villa and just two ahead of Everton after James Garner featured against Uruguay for his maiden senior outing on the international stage.

Gray has been superb for Tottenham, wants an England spot and is arguably the N17 club’s best chance at catching up with the Villans.

There are plenty of internationals within this current Spurs side, but for whatever reason, it just isn’t working.

The likes of Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Xavi Simons have all featured for their nations in the March international break.

Despite being a useful performer this season, Gray hasn’t been afforded that chance, even his second leg showcase against Atletico Madrid showing what he can do.

The midfielder grabbed an assist while also completing 88 per cent of his attempted passes, creating two chances in the process.

He also chipped in with three defensive actions, two duels, two successful dribbles and a top speed of 30.7 km/h.

All this, combined with his excellent versatility, could make him a useful asset for England and the next Spurs debutant at St George’s Park.
