View: Everton ace surely proves his worth to Moyes after latest reveal in win vs Newcastle
Thierno Barry was Everton’s hero once again in the 3-2 win over Newcastle at St James’ Park.
Having come on to help the Toffees see out the game, Newcastle’s 82nd-minute equaliser meant that he was tasked with scoring the winner on Saturday.
And he did just that, somehow scoring with his backside after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall squared it to him in the six-yard box.
Barry has shown David Moyes that he can be trusted in big games, and after being rested for the majority of the Newcastle clash he’ll likely lead the line against Burnley at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Tuesday.

Thierno Barry achieves three-year first in Everton vs Newcastle
He has now scored six times in the top flight for Everton this season, and although fans will still want to see more from him, it’s clear that he has the potential to grow into a brilliant striker.
Since joining the Toffees from Villarreal in the summer, Saturday’s goal was arguably Barry’s best moment of the season, and he’ll be fully ready to find the back of the net against the Clarets in L4.
His unorthodox finish against Newcastle was the first time an Everton substitute scored a winning goal in a Premier League game since Idrissa Gueye did so against Crystal Palace in November 2023.

After scoring in none of his first 14 Premier League appearances for Everton, Barry has now scored six in the last 14 games, with the winner at St James’ Park his first goal as a substitute in the top flight.
The 23-year-old scored the winning goal against Aston Villa in January, while finding the back of the net in both games against Nottingham Forest in December.
Without his goals, the Toffees wouldn’t be in with a shout of qualifying for European football, and Barry must be given credit for that.

If he continues at his current rate, he could find himself on 10 goals at the end of the campaign, which is definitely a respectable return.

How can Barry take his game to the next level?
His strengths clearly lie in his physicality, which was seen when he set a Premier League record by winning 14 aerial duels against Man United in November.
And while his ball control and technical ability are raw, that is to be expected for a striker of his size.
Where he can improve is through his finishing in the box, as he’s never had an issue with linking up the play with those around him.

He seems to lack a killer instinct in front of goal, and that’s a quality every top-class number nine needs to have in their arsenal.
To have accumulated 6.14 xG in 1,616 minutes of Premier League football isn’t enough for a club like Everton, and it’s clear that this is an area he can improve on.
If he manages to add ruthlessness to his game, then Everton fans will definitely view him in a much more positive light.
