Ex-CEO shares verdict on Wissa's Newcastle future amid Jackson links
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe could get the best out of Yoane Wissa if he begins to play two strikers up-front.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is unsure as to whether Nicolas Jackson would succeed at St James’ Park.
A new number nine is a priority for the Magpies in the summer transfer window, with Nick Woltemade potentially leaving the club after just one season.
Chelsea will be looking to offload Jackson when the 24-year-old returns from his loan spell at Bayern Munich, and Newcastle could be among the clubs interested in agreeing a deal.
Newcastle will have an active transfer window rebuilding their squad as they look set to miss out on any European football next season.

‘Jury is still out’ on Nicolas Jackson
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Jackson is not the right player to bolster Newcastle’s attack next season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks that Howe should stick by Wissa.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now, Nicolas Jackson. To me, the jury’s still out.
“Has he been given a clear, proper chance? Well, he hasn’t really delivered, in my view, and I don’t know if he’s the right solution. I think they might be looking for another one to play off him.
“And a fit Wissa may work better as a striking partnership up front. And I think Wissa needs to show, once he gets his injuries sorted out and comes back, he needs to finish strongly, then I think that could be the solution for Newcastle without going too far in terms of turmoil.”
Newcastle closer to agreeing James Trafford deal
Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle lead Tottenham in the race to sign Man City goalkeeper James Trafford this summer.
Trafford is keen to leave Man City in search of a guaranteed number one spot elsewhere, and Newcastle want to upgrade on both Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale.
Ramsdale will leave the club when his loan spell expires at the end of the season, meaning Pope could be demoted to number two goalkeeper on Tyneside.
