View: Everton's squad clearly feeling burnout amid latest PL drop-off, transfer windows to blame
Everton looked to be on course for European football, but results in recent weeks have threatened to end their hopes.
David Moyes’ squad had done remarkably well to get themselves into a strong position since the turn of 2026.
Positivity had begun seeping into the club, and dreams of away trips across Europe had begun entering the minds of fans.
However, now, that is at risk of ending, with the Toffees going winless in their last three Premier League games.
Ultimately, Everton’s drop in Premier League form may be down to factors compounding from what has turned out to be a poor two transfer windows for the Blues.

Why burnout may be behind Everton drop-off
Everton’s last two transfer windows have been poor and not offered many success stories, with Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall the only two standouts.
Even then, Grealish has remained out of action since January.

Everton ended up spending quite a bit of money in the summer, but it has done little to actually improve the squad.
Moyes seemingly agrees after the latest reveal about the Toffees’ squad.
According to Opta data editor Aaron Barton, Everton have used the least number of players with 22 in their matches.
Additionally, they have made the second fewest changes to their starting lineup throughout the season.
Overall, Moyes’ favourites have ended up playing a large chunk of minutes, and that may be behind the tail-off seen in the last few results with burnout a real concern.
Only three of the 10 new arrivals have ended up playing more than 12 per cent of total available Premier League minutes.
Everton need a bigger squad for next season
The good news for the Friedkin Group is that the data is there, and it means that Everton should not end up falling into the same trap.
Moyes’ lack of options, through his own trust of his players, has ultimately meant the same players starting week-in week-out.

The little time to rest and rejuvenate may have caught up with Everton, and that can only be solved by bringing in his higher-quality players.
European football may slip away this season, but the ownership cannot allow the same to happen again next season.
