View: Rangers shoot themselves in foot after what Cavenagh does at Ibrox
Rangers may have to overpay for transfers after revealing their plans to raise funds for the summer window.
Andrew Cavenagh has raised a £16million share issue at Ibrox to further invest in the Gers’ squad at the end of the season.
The Light Blues’ chairman has shown a lot of ambition since taking over the Govan side, but selling clubs now know that the Americans have money to spend.
It’s likely that the Glaswegian outfit may be involved in intense negotiations for players they could potentially have to pay a premium price for in the upcoming transfer window due to public knowledge of their investment plans.
Cavenagh is right to back Danny Rohl after the upturn in form at Ibrox since the German manager’s appointment, but buying players for him for the right price in the summer may prove to be difficult.

🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Rangers will rue Youssef Chermiti example from last summer
Youssef Chermiti moved to the Gers from Everton for a £10million package deal, having failed to score or assist during his two-year spell at Goodison Park.
While the Portuguese striker has managed to get fans off his back after scoring multiple goals against Celtic and Hearts, he still arguably hasn’t lived up to his price tag.
Statistics Youssef Chermiti Appearances 23 Goals 9 Assists 2 Big chances missed 13 Big chances created 2 Successful dribbles per game 0.8 (45%)
The Light Blues also decided to spend £4.75m on Ryan Naderi, who was playing in the third division of German football, in the winter transfer.
With Cavenagh basically letting the world know the Glaswegian outfit will once again have money to spend in the summer, they may have shot themselves in the foot.
Speaking to the Daily Record on 29 March, the Govan side’s former chief, Gordon Smith, said, “I’m quite surprised he has come out with that figure. Right away, if he’s saying he’s got that kind of money the big problem you get is as soon as you’re going for a player, the other club is saying, ‘wait a minute, they’ve got loads of money, they’ve got £16m to spend, why should we sell a player for a million?’ I wouldn’t have come out and made that statement.”
Danny Rohl set for summer transfer repeat after Ibrox disappointment
Chermiti and Naderi have struggled for Rangers in recent matches, prompting concerns over the lack of a reliable goalscorer in Govan.

If the Gers fail to win the William Hill Premiership title this season, it will surely be down to their strikers being poor in front of goal.
Bojan Miovski has been no better for the Light Blues since signing from Girona, with James Tavernier the leading goalscorer for them in all competitions in the current campaign.
Rohl may have to demand the addition of another number nine, this time someone who has proven themselves in the top leagues, to make further progress at the Glaswegian outfit in the 2026-27 term.
