View: Seamus Coleman will proudly pass Everton baton after teammate's captaincy remark
Seamus Coleman could be in his final season as an Everton player, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall may just fancy his chances as the next captain of the club.
The Toffees were without their skipper for a large part of the campaign, but thankfully he is now back to full fitness.
Coleman has been playing with Ireland over the international break and suffered heartache when his nation failed to qualify for the World Cup.
The Toffees are chasing European football this season, but it would be in David Moyes‘ character to give his captain the send-off he deserves at the end of the campaign.
Everton would have to appoint a new captain if Coleman and the club decide to part ways, and Dewsbury-Hall may be the man who will step up for that major responsibility.

What has Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall said about becoming Everton skipper?
Coleman’s contract expires at the end of the season, but many around him, including his Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson, don’t think he should retire just yet.
That’s not to say he wouldn’t find another club if his deal wasn’t extended, but the feeling is that the right-back will stay at the Toffees in a coaching role.

But one way or another, the Blues will have to find a new captain once he goes, and Dewsbury-Hall might have one of the strongest claims to take up that role.
While speaking on A View From The Bullens‘ podcast this week, the attacking midfielder spoke about the potential of becoming Everton’s future captain.
Dewsbury-Hall said: “If it ever presented itself to me [captaincy], I wouldn’t be the sort of person to say no. I’d take it with open arms because I feel like I could offer a lot, but that’s just a natural progression.
“I know there are a lot of big players in this team, but for me, it’s just about trying to lead by example on the pitch and do as well as I can for the team. If that in turn leads to something else, then I’m happy to take that.”
Coleman will be fully aware of what Dewsbury-Hall offers on the pitch, but also behind the scenes at Finch Farm.
The likelihood is that James Tarkowski could take the reins after Coleman, but Dewsbury-Hall could be next in line after the centre-back.
Does Dewsbury-hall lead by example?
Whatever happens, Coleman would be glad to hand over his captain’s badge to one of his current teammates, but as Dewsbury-Hall says, he leads by example.
Choosing a new captain would depend on what Moyes values more, someone being vocal or setting the playing standards, because if it’s the latter, then Dewsbury-Hall would surely be the favourite.

As highlighted in the Sofascore graphic above, Dewsbury-Hall has an average rating of 7.18 for the season so far, which ranks as one of the highest scores from an individual player under Moyes.
The Englishman boasts 1.20 key passes per game, while also making 3.93 recoveries per 90 minutes. He can do both sides of the game well, contributing to 1.60 tackles per 90 minutes as well as taking fire on goal 1.20 times a match.
Coleman and Everton may very well decide to give it one more year, especially with the club closing in on a European spot,
