View: Tottenham midfielder's underlying stats sum up his Spurs frustration
Yves Bissouma has posted some impressive underlying numbers for Tottenham Hotspur this season, which makes his Spurs situation even more frustrating.
The 29-year-old central midfielder has missed the vast majority of the 2025-26 campaign through injury, having not kicked a ball in anger for Tottenham since last August when he returned against West Ham on 17 January.
However, the Malian international is now once again on the treatment table, with his last appearance coming against Crystal Palace on 5 March.
Bissouma joined Spurs from Brighton in the summer of 2022, but has only been able to play just over 100 games for the Lilywhites, in a spell that has featured controversy, disappointment and injuries, but some flashes of real potential too.
He’s primed to play little part in Tottenham’s fight against relegation over the final weeks of the season, as he prepares for an important summer ahead in his career.

How good are Yves Bissouma’s underlying Tottenham stats?
Bissouma is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, with his contract set to expire at the end of this season.
The midfielder is sure to be on a decent wage packet too, and Spurs chiefs will likely want to free that up ahead of the summer window, ready to reinvest it on a safer and bigger contributor regardless of what division they’re in.

However, even if Tottenham do send him on his way this summer, it won’t be done so happily, as there was clearly so much potential for major success in N17 for him.
Bissouma enjoyed an excellent few years at Brighton before joining Tottenham, and there were plenty of games in his early days in North London where his quality shone through.
Unfortunately though, those moments have been few and far between in recent times, but there have been signs in his relatively small sample size of appearances this season that he could be such an important player for the Lilywhites.

As per Sofascore, Bissouma has registered a passing accuracy of 88 per cent from his eight Premier League outings this season, whilst also posting a superb 95 per cent accuracy rate inside his own half and 82 per cent in the opposition half respectively.
He’s also averaged 3.1 ball recoveries per game, 2.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.6 clearances per game too, and hasn’t made any errors leading to opposition shots.
Bissouma has also won 74 per cent of his ground duels, 71 per cent of his total duels and even has a 100 per cent dribble success rate per match.
Tottenham should put their faith in talented young midfielders
If there was ever a summer for Tottenham to have a complete overhaul of their playing squad, it would be this summer.
So, at 29, injury prone and out of contract, Spurs would be making an understandable and sensible decision to move on from Bissouma.
And, in the likes of Lucas Bergvall, Pape Sarr, Archie Gray and Callum Olusesi to mention a few, the future of central midfield play in N17 is extremely bright.
Bissouma is a good player, but unfortunately, Tottenham just have far more pros than cons to sending him on his way into the free agent market come the end of the campaign.
