Bayern Munich’s director of sport Max Eberl has poured cold water on rumours that the club have made a move to sign Mohamed Salah as a free agent this summer.

Liverpool dropped a bombshell last week as it was announced that Salah would be bringing down the curtain on his illustrious nine-year career on Merseyside at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old will be remembered as one of the most beloved and influential players in Liverpool’s history having helped the club win eight pieces of silverware, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League trophy in 2019.

But Salah has repeatedly flirted with the idea of leaving Anfield since signing a new contract last year and a public falling out with Arne Slot resulted in the ‘Egyptian King’ being dropped for three matches in December.

Salah and Slot would go on to repair their fractious relationship, with the attacker scoring five goals in his last 14 appearances for the Reds since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The veteran forward’s decision is final, though, and Liverpool fans will have to get used to their talisman for the best part of a decade pulling on another team’s colours next season.

Shortly after Liverpools official announcement, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, insisted his next move remained uncertain.

‘We do not know where Mohamed will play next season. This also means that no one else knows,’ Abbas told his followers on X.

Just days later, Ibrahim Hassan, the director of the Egyptian national team, suggested he had heard talk of Salah’s camp receiving bids from Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and from Serie A.

However, Bayern chief Max Eberl has since gone on record rubbishing Hassan’s claims surrounding the club’s apparent interest, telling Winwin: ‘No, Mohamed Salah has not received any offer from Bayern Munich.’

Salah’s contract with Liverpool had been due to run for another season, but the Premier League champions decided to waive this, allowing the three-time PFA Player of the Year to depart 12 months early.

He will likely leave Liverpool as the third highest goalscorer (255) in the club’s history, behind only Roger Hunt (285) and Ian Rush (346) in the record books.

In a video shared on his social media pages, Salah thanked fans for their support through ‘the best time of his career’ and stressed that his decision to leave was not made lightly.

‘Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season,’ he said.

‘I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion. It’s a history. It’s a spirit I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory, we won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life.

‘I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present, and to the fans … I don’t have enough words.

‘The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times, it’s something I will never forget and something I will take with me always.’

He added: ‘Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will be always one of you.

‘This club will always be my home to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.’
