View: Tottenham set for more pain as supercomputer predicts end to seven-year run vs Atletico Madrid
Tottenham Hotspur are in dire need of a win when they travel to face Atletico Madrid in a first-leg last-16 clash in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Although the Premier League is the priority for Igor Tudor, his side need to put in a respectable performance to ease the discontent among fans.
After finishing fourth in the Champions League group phase, Spurs have the advantage of playing the second leg in N17, but they can’t afford to suffer another embarrassing defeat that would leave them with too big a mountain to climb.
When Tottenham meet Atletico Madrid at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, they’ll need to be at their best, or they could be on the end of an embarrassing defeat.

Atletico Madrid predicted as heavy favourites vs Tottenham
Tottenham have won their last three Champions League games without conceding a goal, with those wins coming against Slavia Prague, Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt.
They have never previously won four consecutive matches in the European Cup/Champions League, nor have they kept four straight clean sheets before.
According to Opta, the Spanish giants are the comfortable favourites for Tuesday’s clash.
- Atletico Madrid have been given a 60.1 per cent chance of winning
- Spurs have a 19 per cent chance of securing their first win under Tudor
- A draw has been given a 20.9 per cent probability of occurring
Tottenham have only lost one of their last five Champions League meetings with Spanish opponents, with that a 4-2 home defeat to Barcelona in the 2018-19 campaign.
However, their seven-year streak will likely come to an end, especially given their poor run of form in the top flight.
Atletico Madrid have also never lost a Champions League knockout stage game under Diego Simeone at either their former home, the Vicente Calderon, or their current home, the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Tottenham are experiencing many problems under Tudor, who hasn’t exactly got the pedigree when it comes to Champions League knockout matches.
What is Igor Tudor’s record in the Champions League?
This will be Tudor’s first game as a manager in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League, while he has won just two of nine matches in the competition overall.
His most recent game in the competition was a defeat in the Spanish capital, losing 1-0 at Real Madrid in charge of Juventus in October 2025.
The Croatian head coach hasn’t given any fans confidence so far with his tactics on the pitch and his comments in press conferences.

And, although the game against Atletico Madrid won’t have an impact on their Premier League status, it is the perfect chance for several players to regain some confidence.
Therefore, it’s up to Tudor to prove the doubters wrong at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
