The determining factor for a Matchday is the month in which its Saturday falls. For April, the data referred to Matchdays 28 to 30.

April nominees

Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer 04 Leverkusen)

Alejandro Grimaldo is perhaps the biggest star in Leverkusen's squad. As usual, he patrols the left flank, leading by example with strong performances and also impressing as a leader. In the 6-3 victory against Wolfsburg on matchday 28, the Spaniard not only scored a brace but also demonstrated his leadership qualities. Sporting director Simon Rolfes revealed that Grimaldo gave an emotional speech at half-time. "He fulfilled his role as an absolute leader not only with his two goals but also in the locker room," said Rolfes.

Leverkusen came out of the break much improved and, after trailing 3-2, ultimately won 6-3. Grimaldo played the full 90 minutes in this match, as well as in the two subsequent games. In addition to his goals, he also provided 12 assists and averaged 96 touches per game. Grimaldo is high appreciated by his teammates – given his qualities, that's no surprise.
