Boyd shares 'incredible' verdict on Rangers star, Chris Sutton calls for sacked Ibrox chief's return
Youssef Chermiti has scored most of his Rangers goals in big William Hill Premiership fixtures.
Kris Boyd was amazed by the Portuguese striker’s brace against Celtic at Ibrox on 1 March as he broke down who he’s scored against this season.
Of the former Everton ace’s nine goals, four have come against Hearts, four against Celtic and one against Kilmarnock, highlighting how he’s arguably been a big-game player.
Chris Sutton then called for Kevin Thelwell’s return in an apparent witty remark after hearing of the 21-year-old centre-forward’s record, with the former Gers sporting director responsible for signing him last summer.
Kevin Thelwell tenure revisited at Rangers
Thelwell was given the reins of the Gers’ recruitment by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises after their takeover.
The English chief must have surely been involved in identifying Russell Martin as the next Light Blues manager after the end of the 2024-25 season, and then went on to sign 12 players at Ibrox.
Fans of the Govan side weren’t too happy about Thelwell focusing on getting players from down south, with nine additions from England.
Apart from Jayden Meghoma and Djeidi Gassama, the others arguably didn’t live up to expectations in the opening months of the campaign.
Martin was sacked after an abysmal start to the campaign, and Thelwell followed him through the door along with Patrick Stewart in November, with their exits certainly justified.
Speaking on The Warm Up on 2 March, Boyd said, “Nine goals in the league. Four against Hearts. Four against Celtic and one against Kilmarnock. The two of them yesterday were incredible,” and Sutton quipped, “Bring back Thelwell really.”
Andrew Cavenagh in for multi-million profit at Ibrox
Rangers spent £8million to sign Chermiti from Everton last summer and that could rise to £10m with add-ons.
The Gers would have surely been concerned about the prospect of losing money on the Portugal Under-21 international after his initial displays at Ibrox.

In the winter transfer window, there were claims that Fenerbahce wanted to sign Chermiti for £13m and many supporters in Govan were baffled that Cavenagh didn’t accept the offer.
The Glaswegian outfit’s hierarchy will now be confident they can make a hefty profit on the centre-forward in the coming years if he continues his fine form, which will undoubtedly be a relief for them.
