Cameron Archer's move to Rangers now definitely off as significant bid tabled for instant Ibrox signing

Cameron Archer now looks set to stay at Southampton rather than join Rangers as the latter edge closer to signing Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi.

Rangers have been desperate to add a striker to Danny Rohl’s ranks this winter as they aim to catch Hearts and stay ahead of Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title.

Several forwards have been linked with a move to Ibrox ahead of the deadline, with reports of Rangers eyeing a deal for Southampton’s Cameron Archer emerging over the weekend.

Archer, 24, has struggled for consistent game time at St Mary’s this season, with four goals in 23 appearances and just 10 starts across all competitions.

Gers fans were not best pleased with their club’s apparent interest in his signature, and so the majority will be excited at the latest developments around their new striker plans.

Ryan Naderi is set to undergo a Rangers medical

As well as Archer, Rangers have been linked with a move for Naderi, who has registered eight goals and four assists for German third tier side Hansa Rostock this season.

The 22-year-old now looks set to move to Ibrox instead of Archer, with Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg reporting that Naderi is on his way to undergo a Rangers medical in Manchester.

Rangers have significantly improved their offer to Rostock to sign the striker on a permanent deal with immediate effect, but the German side still need to give a final go-ahead for a deal to be completed.

Rangers could miss out on Tawanda Maswanhise after Anderlecht approach

Rangers’ desire to sign a new centre-forward has seen them register their interest in a move for high-flying Motherwell striker Maswanhise.

The Zimbabwe international has netted 18 goals in 28 appearances so far this season for the team sat fourth in the Premiership.

Sources told Football Insider last week that Rangers would have to pay £4million to sign Maswanhise in this window, with Celtic also interested in his services.

That price tag has seemingly dissuaded either Glasgow club from making an approach for his services, with new reports claiming that Anderlecht are now plotting a move for Maswanhise.

Rangers instead look to have focused their efforts on signing Naderi, with a deal progressing before tonight’s deadline.
