Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham ref watch: Three mistakes made by Jesus Gil
Tottenham booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 2-0 win away at Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night.
The Lilywhites have found life difficult in the Premier League once again this season, but their Champions League campaign was provided plenty of positivity, and they ended the league phase in fourth place.
Randal Kolo Muani has struggled for Tottenham at times this season, but he was on hand to net from close range early into the second half to set his team on their way, before Dominic Solanke secured the points in the 78th minute.
Thomas Frank’s side could also have had an even easier night had Xavi Simons’ second-minute effort not been ruled out for a foul in the build-up.
With that in mind, Football Insider picks out three mistakes that referee Jesus Gil made during the crucial European encounter.

Djed Spence wrongly penalised for foul on Nathaniel Brown
Djed Spence has had a promising season for Tottenham, as his displays have seen him receive recognition from England manager Thomas Tuchel throughout the campaign.
The right-back was part of a vital defensive display against Eintracht Frankfurt, as the backline secured an invaluable clean sheet to help their team book their place in the next stage of the competition.
However, Spence can certainly count himself unlucky to have been penalised for a rather innocuous foul that took place near Frankfurt’s corner flag in the first half.
The defender went to apply pressure to Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown, only to be penalised for a push against the hosts’ star.

Gil adjudged that Brown was unfairly knocked off balance by Spence during the challenge, when in reality, the Frankfurt man went down far too easily.
Ansgar Knauff lucky to escape yellow card
Kevin Danso has been strong for Tottenham in the air at times this season, and that was the case once again on Wednesday night.
The Austrian stood tall for his team throughout the 90 minutes in Frankfurt, and luckily escaped an injury from what could have been a potentially serious collision with Ansgar Knauff in one particular challenge.
The Frankfurt man went to challenge Danso for a ball in the air in the 58th minute, but made a back for the Tottenham defender and made no attempt to play the ball.
Danso won the ball uncontested, but was then dumped on the floor in unceremonious fashion due to his opponent’s decision to barge into him after he had left the ground.

Gil awarded a free-kick to the visitors for the challenge, but failed to show Knauff a yellow card for the incident, which could have potentially caused a serious injury.
Aurele Amenda should have received yellow card for late Xavi Simons tackle
Simons was a bundle of energy for Tottenham throughout the game, as his tireless work rate continually caused problems for the hosts in their own half.
That was evident right until the final stages of the game, when he raced into the corner of the Frankfurt to steal the ball off the toe of Aurele Amenda, who ended up bundling the Tottenham man to the ground.
It was the defender’s second foul of the evening, and while it was not a serious or nasty tackle, he could easily have been cautioned for an accumulation of fouls.
Simons was fouled on five separate occasions during the game, and he would surely have been hoping for better protection from the referee, given that Frankfurt were unable to stop him without bringing him down.
The only booking of the game went to Guglielmo Vicario for taking his time over a goal kick, and Simons and Co. are sure to have been left wondering how that could be the case.
