Enzo Maresca contact made as Tottenham linked with hiring new manager amid Thomas Frank sack news
Enzo Maresca is being linked with the Tottenham manager’s job amid uncertainty surrounding Thomas Frank’s future in North London.
Frank is under pressure with Tottenham sitting 14th in the Premier League table after 23 matches, while their remaining hope of silverware this season comes in the Champions League.
Tottenham drew 2-2 with Burnley on 24 January, and are now 12 points behind fourth-placed Liverpool ahead of Sunday’s clash with Man City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Frank still has the backing of the board, although Spurs fans are clear that they want him sacked.
Ex-Chelsea boss Maresca is reportedly a contender for the Tottenham job, although his former side Leicester City have made a move to re-hire him.

Enzo Maresca linked with a return to Leicester City
Maresca is out of a job after leaving Chelsea on 1 January due to his fractious relationship with the board.
The Italian did an impressive job at Stamford Bridge and won the Club World Cup in July 2025 by beating Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final.
However, a run of poor results in December was followed by cryptic comments aimed at Chelsea’s owners, and Maresca was out of a job.
Despite being linked with Spurs, it seems that he could now return to Leicester.

The Mirror reported on 1 February that Leicester have been in contact with Maresca, who guided the Foxes back to the Premier League during his only season in charge in 2023-24.
Leicester, who sacked Marti Cifuentes on 25 January, would like Maresca to take over on a short-term contract until the end of the season.
Although the Foxes know that the Italian has been linked with both Tottenham and Man City, they believe he could come in and lead them towards an unlikely playoff finish.
Whether he would entertain managing a team that is 16th in the second tier at this stage of his career is a different question, but a reunion with the team he won the 2023-24 Championship title with isn’t implausible.

Mauricio Pochettino and Michael Carrick are also named as potential candidates to replace Frank, and the Dane has to oversee a huge turnaround in form.
Enzo Maresca is a bad fit for Tottenham
It’s a fact that Maresca’s CV is much more impressive than Frank’s, and there is no doubt that he would be able to galvanise the dressing room.
He was able to get Chelsea playing attractive football while winning important matches and was key to securing their return to the Champions League this season.
However, given the fact that he managed one of Tottenham’s fiercest rivals, the supporters would have been likely to turn on him quite quickly.
Additionally, his relationship with the BlueCo consortium turned incredibly sour, and it remains unclear if ENIC would want a manager like him in charge.
It’s clear that Frank is on his last legs at Spurs, and although a move for Maresca now looks in doubt, it could give Joe Lewis more clarity on who he potentially wants to replace the Dane.
