Everton star matches personal milestone in Burnley win, club greats now in reach

Jordan Pickford has hit the 10 clean sheets mark once again in a season after Everton’s 2-0 win over Burnley.

Everton‘s goalkeeper made two saves as David Moyes‘ side eased past the relegation strugglers at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Tuesday.

Goals in either half from James Tarkowski and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall sent the Toffees up to eighth in the Premier League, just one point behind Brentford – who are in pole position to qualify for next season’s Conference League.

The Merseyside outfit also celebrated their first win on home soil since 6 December, while Burnley suffered their 18th defeat of the campaign.

Days on from Pickford’s world-class save to deny Sandro Tonali in Everton’s 3-2 win at Newcastle United, the England international put in another competent display for his team.

Jordan Pickford may have an eye on tough Everton record

With the win over Burnley, Pickford chalked up his 10th clean sheet of the league season in his 29th appearance. In that time, he has conceded 33 goals and picked up two yellow cards.

Now, EFC Statto has pointed out via X that this is the sixth time Pickford has kept 10 or more clean sheets in a league campaign for Everton.

Only former Toffees stoppers Neville Southall (12) and Tim Howard have topped the 31-year-old’s efforts.

Since signing from Sunderland in 2017, after loan spells at Preston North End, Bradford City, Carlisle United and more, Pickford has been a vital player at Everton.

He has made nearly 350 appearances for the club and in that time has established himself as England’s number one.

Pickford has plenty of years ahead of him and if he stays put, Howard’s milestone is certainly in reach. However, Southall’s is a different story.

What’s next for Everton?

Following Everton’s win and Brentford’s goalless draw at Bournemouth, Moyes’ team have a real chance of securing European football for the first time since 2018.

However, they face a huge test to extend their winning run to three games when they travel to league leaders Arsenal on 14 March.

The tough fixtures keep coming as Everton host fifth-placed Chelsea a week later, before a trip to European rivals Brentford on 11 April.

The following Sunday, Hill Dickinson Stadium will play host to its first Merseyside Derby as Everton seek to get one over on rivals Liverpool.

If the Toffees can pick up the odd win here and there during this period, their European dreams will be well and truly on.
