Everton vs Burnley preview: Team news, lineups, prediction

Everton can strengthen their push for European football by securing all three points over Burnley at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Tuesday.

David Moyes‘ side came out 3-2 winners against Newcastle on Saturday, but with 10 games left, there is still a long way to go before they achieve their goals this season.

Everton are aiming to qualify for European football for the first time since 2017-18, and they must secure back-to-back league wins for the first time since December against Scott Parker’s side.

Burnley are struggling at the wrong end of the table, and as they sit in 19th place, eight points adrift of safety, they can’t afford to drop points in L4.

Head-to-head

Everton are unbeaten in their last three meetings against Burnley and ended a 13-game winless run when they beat the Clarets 1-0 in April 2024.

The reverse fixture this season ended in a 0-0 stalemate, although the Toffees felt they were wrongly denied a penalty late on when Jaidon Anthony handled the ball inside the box.

Burnley have only won three of their last 21 away games against Everton in all competitions, and it’s safe to say that they haven’t got the best record when facing Everton.

The previous three Premier League meetings between Moyes and Parker have seen just one goal scored, and fans of both sides know that they might not be in for a classic on Tuesday.

Overall, Everton have beaten Burnley 55 times, lost 38 meetings and drawn 31 matches.

Team news and predicted lineups

Although Jack Grealish is out for the rest of the season, Moyes has the majority of his squad to pick from on Saturday.

He rotated his attack against the Magpies, but Thierno Barry is expected to come back into the side for Beto.

The other change to the team could see Harrison Armstrong replace Dwight McNeil, as that would allow Iliman Ndiaye to return to his strongest position at right wing.

As for Burnley, they have plenty of major injuries, with seven of their senior players currently unfit.

Everton predicted XI vs Burnley

Everton predicted XI: Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Gueye, Garner; Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, Armstrong; Barry

Burnley predicted XI: Dubravka; Humphreys, Worrall, Esteve; Walker, Ugochukwu, Hannibal, Pires; Foster, Anthony, Flemming

How I predict Everton vs Burnley to finish

Everton have a far superior squad, and momentum is on their side, so it’s easy to rule them as the favourites.

Someone like Barry, who has now scored six goals in his last 14 games, could make a real difference, while James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite were both solid as a centre-back partnership on Saturday.

Burnley do possess a threat in attack, with Anthony and Zian Flemming excelling this season.

However, the Clarets are fragile at the back, and the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye could have a field day in L4.

Therefore, given Burnley’s defensive struggles, a 3-1 win for Everton is the most likely outcome.
