Everything we know about Rangers outcast's contract ahead of return to parent club
Rangers are set to wave goodbye to Derek Cornelius when the summer transfer window opens.
The 28-year-old completed a loan switch to Ibrox in the summer as Russell Martin looked to add defensive reinforcements to his squad.
He was the final signing of a busy window with Kevin Thelwell at the helm, as Emmanuel Fernandez and Nasser Djiga also came in at the heart of defence.
The Canada international has hardly featured for the Gers this season due to injury before a clash with Danny Rohl before the March international break.
Things certainly haven’t worked out for Cornelius at Rangers, as we now assess what we know about his contract before his Ligue 1 return.

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
What is Derek Cornelius’ contract situation at Marseille?
Strangely, the defender’s loan spell in Govan actually started well as he put in a string of positive performances for the Light Blues.
That was all brought to a halt when he picked up an injury that ruled him out for just under five months before returning for his country in March.

He is still said to be a while away from full match fitness, but is no longer considered part of the first-team plans.
That makes his return to Marseille in the summer almost certain, as his first loan spell away from France has failed.
His contract at Orange Velodrome currently runs until the summer of 2028, following his move from Malmo in August 2024.
The Canadian reportedly earns a weekly wage of £14,000 per week and a salary in the region of £728,000 per year in Ligue 1.
That is a sizable fee for someone who isn’t playing, with Cornelius continuing to undergo a feud with Rohl at Rangers.
What went wrong for Cornelius at Rangers?
The true reason for the loanee’s isolation at Ibrox have never been confirmed publicly, but the reasons still seem to be clear.
Rohl spoke out, revealing that the defender had been training alone in March before being released early to join the Canada national team.
It appears that Cornelius has had a strained relationship with the German head coach, which has led to his separation from the senior squad.

His training gear has reportedly been removed from the Gers’ facilities, a sign of how bad things have become.
This all looks to end without the Light Blues green-lighting a permanent move for the loan signing, as he looks set to return to Marseille.
