Ex-PL club CEO: This is what Pep Guardiola is likely to do after Man City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s next job could be for an international side when he decides the time is right to leave the Etihad.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid doubt over Guardiola’s future at the club.

Guardiola could decide to step down at the end of this season, a year before the end of his contract, having spent the past decade in Manchester.

The 55-year-old has overseen an era of unprecedented success, the latest of his 19 trophies at the club coming in the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal last weekend.

Man City would not be willing to let Guardiola leave, but potential successors like former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca have already started to emerge to replace the Spaniard.

Pep Guardiola ‘needs a break’ when he leaves Man City

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Guardiola will take another managerial job when he leaves Man City.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks it may be the correct decision for Guardiola and the club to part ways.

Pep Guardiola’s managerial career at Manchester City.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think he may go on to international management after maybe a year off for himself.

“But look, he’s done a superb job. He’s a great football brain. He’s been a massive bonus for the Premier League, and he should leave with his head held high if he decides to leave. But I know that there is that whole football manager addiction inside him.

“We can all see it and it is addictive. But I do think that there is something there that needs a bit of a break, and maybe it’s best for him and for Man City if they decide to move on.”

Man City set to lose defender after Marc Guehi claims first team spot

Sources have told Football Insider that Man City defender Nathan Ake is set to leave the club due to a lack of game time.

The arrival of Marc Guehi in the January transfer window pushed Ake further down the pecking order, with the 31-year-old having started just four Premier League games this season.

Ake’s availability is sure to be of interest to many Premier League clubs looking for defensive reinforcements in the summer, with the centre-back having been a solid and reliable option under Guardiola.
