Exclusive: Blackpool agree deal to sign Luton Town defender

Blackpool have agreed a deal to sign Luton Town defender Reuell Walters on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The 21-year-old has been heavily out of favour having made just five senior appearances all season, and has been keen to leave in search of increased playing time.

Blackpool are now prepared to offer him a way out following Crystal Palace‘s decision to recall Danny Imray, who has since joined West Brom, earlier in the window.

A deal has been agreed for Walters to move to the rival League One club and he will complete the finishing stages of the deal over the coming hours.

The full-back has a contract with Luton until 2028, but has so far failed to establish himself as a regular starter since joining from Arsenal in 2024.

Blackpool make move to sign Reuell Walters

Luton are well-stocked in the right-back position, after Jack Wilshere recently moved to end speculation surrounding the future of the injured Izzy Jones.

There have been calls for another right-back to arrive before the 2 February deadline, but Wilshere listed Hakeem Odoffin and Nigel Lonwijk among his options.

That has allowed Walters to leave the club on loan as he remains well down the pecking order with just three League One starts to his name this season.

Both Walters and Luton are keen for him to gain more playing time away from loan and are hopeful he can gain more experience playing at this level.

There had been other interested parties, but Blackpool have moved quickly to land the deal.

Walters to follow Christ Makosso out of Kenilworth Road

Walters will not be the only defender to have left Luton in this transfer window, after Christ Makosso completed a move to Oxford United yesterday.

This came after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Oxford had opened talks over Makosso, who was keen to move on before the deadline.

The 21-year-old was keen to make the move away from Kenilworth Road as he wants to be playing at a higher level than League One.

Oxford boss Matt Bloomfield is a big fan of the defender having worked with him during his time in charge of Luton and he pushed for a reunion.
