Keith Jackson urges Rangers to ask £3m question to sign Scottish Premiership star today

Keith Jackson has urged Rangers to make one last attempt to sign Motherwell star Tawanda Maswanhise.

A striker has been towards the top of Rangers‘ transfer wishlist this winter, with question marks remaining over whether Danny Rohl‘s side has enough cutting edge at the top of the pitch.

Numerous players have been linked with a move to Ibrox, but ahead of Monday’s deadline, no new centre-forward has arrived to bolster the Gers’ squad.

Joel Piroe, Rayan Naderi, Kieron Bowie and Maswanhise have been just some of the names touted to Rangers this winter, as it remains to be seen whether Rohl can get his much-desired striker signing.

Rangers handed last-minute Tawanda Maswanhise hope

Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou has dismissed transfer talk surrounding Maswanhise in this window, and has remained confident he would be able to retain the services of his star striker.

The 23-year-old has fired home 13 times in 21 Premiership games so far this season, as well as chipping in with two assists.

As such, the Zimbabwe international has emerged as one of the big breakout stars of the Scottish top flight and is well on his way to establishing himself as one of the best in his position in the division.

So, it’s no surprise to see Rangers taking a shine to the former Leicester City academy graduate, and Daily Record journalist Jackson believes the Gers have to at least ask the question on Monday.

Writing in the latest print edition of the Daily Record, Jackson said: “£3million would at least give Motherwell something to think about (for Maswanhise). But both Celtic and Rangers should be asking the question.”

And speaking via the Daily Record’s Hotline Live show, Jackson would add: “It staggers me that these conversations haven’t taken place.”

Stumping up for Maswanhise might be Rangers’ best route to striker deal

Rangers are working incredibly hard to get a centre-forward in before the deadline, but it’s not proving easy.

Whilst it has been reported that they’ve verbally agreed to sign Naderi from Hansa Rostock in the summer, Rohl wants a striker in now, and his options are running out.

Piroe has always maintained his desire to stay with Leeds this winter, and with Jorgen Strand Larsen heading for Crystal Palace, Daniel Farke may feel inclined to oblige his wishes now.

Meanwhile, Cameron Archer could be close to a loan move to Ibrox, but that deal has been complicated by Southampton now needing to sign a striker of their own before letting him leave due to Wolves’ move for Adam Armstrong.

Therefore, Maswanhise may prove to be Rangers’ best bet to get a deal done before 7 pm, as Motherwell may find a £3m offer too good to turn down.
