'Frankly Unacceptable' - Ex-PGMOL chief expects FA action after Everton ace's social media post

Everton midfielder James Garner faces action from the Football Association over a social media post following the draw against Brentford.

That is according to former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett, as he shared his views exclusively to Goodison News.

Garner played the full 90 minutes as Everton twice battled back to draw 2-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall popped up with a last-gasp leveller in West London after Igor Thiago netted either side of a first-half Beto goal.

Garner was not pleased with one moment in particular in Everton’s clash with Brentford, though, which he later took to social media to comment on.

James Garner not happy with yellow card decision vs Brentford

Garner has been superb throughout the campaign for Everton, culminating in his recent call-up to the England squad.

The 25-year-old did not register a goal or assist against Brentford, with his most telling impact being a yellow card he received.

Referee Farai Hallam cautioned Garner shortly into the second half, rather harshly, for bringing down Dango Ouattara.

That was Garner’s eighth yellow card of the season and it left him walking a tightrope pretty much throughout the second half.

Taking to his personal Instagram story on Saturday evening, Garner posted: “Tough point away from home. Also, the worst yellow card I’ve ever received.”

That was accompanied by a facepalm emoji, with the England international clearly not happy with referee Hallam.

Indeed, Hallam made a number of questionable decisions in Everton’s draw with Brentford.

Keith Hackett expects FA to look into Garner post

Garner will only incur an automatic ban if he picks up 15 cards at this stage, seeing him miss three matches, but he is still seven off that mark.

However, Hackett believes the fact the former Manchester United ace so much as questioning the match official on social media could land him in hot water.

“Players going on social media and making critical comments of decisions by referees is frankly unacceptable,” he said.

“I expect the Football Association to take action. The player’s record will then determine the sanction.

“You cannot appeal against a yellow card incident the English game. That adds to the player’s frustration.”

Everton fans will of course hope that is not the case, with the midfielder as important as anyone in the Toffees’ hopes of finishing in a European spot.
