Ibrox View: Rohl red flags become evident as Rangers belief shattered vs Hearts

Danny Rohl needs to have a long, hard look at himself after Rangers lost 2-1 to Hearts in the William Hill Premiership on Monday.

The Gers have lost back-to-back league games for the first time since under Graeme Murty in March 2018.

In the opening 45 minutes, the Light Blues were a class above the hosts, going into the break with a lead at Tynecastle Park on 4 May.

The German manager must have been delighted with the scoreline at half-time, but just one change from Derek McInnes in the second half saw the 37-year-old head coach scratching his head on the sideline as Stephen Kingsley and Lawrence Shankland found the back of the net.

Rohl got outclassed at Tynecastle Park and it’s not the first time this season the Govan side’s fans have seen their team play a game of two halves.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises must review Rangers appointment

Rohl brought some positivity back to the Gers after replacing Russell Martin in October, with supporters in G51 up in arms after an abysmal start to the season.

The German manager has done a decent job getting the Light Blues back in title contention, but the Ibrox faithful are now beginning to wonder whether he’s the right man for the job.

Red flags have undoubtedly emerged as the German manager has struggled against the experienced and talented managers in Scottish football.

McInnes and Martin O’Neill have largely got the better of Rohl, while the former Sheffield Wednesday boss has found things difficult against Jens Berthel Askou, which should raise concerns about him in G51.

In the 75th minute, Rangers made a triple change, bringing on Tuur Rommens, Thelo Aasgaard and Ryan Naderi.

While the Gers needed more attacking impetus at that moment, it is beyond understanding why Rohl felt it was sensible to take Mikey Moore off.

The German manager also decided to start Andreas Skov Olsen over Djeidi Gassama in such a monumental fixture, despite the Danish winger consistently underperforming.

Rohl hasn’t filled the Govan side’s fanbase with much encouragement in recent weeks after shattering their title hopes.

Any belief Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises may have had in the 37-year-old head coach have surely been dismantled after the recent performances.
