'I'm led to believe...' - Journo shares what he knows about Rangers registration for new signings in UEL

Andreas Skov Olsen won’t be able to make his Rangers debut against Ludogorets in the Europa League on Thursday.

Skov Olsen was presented at Ibrox before kick-off against Annan Athletic in the Scottish Gas Cup’s fourth round.

The Gers went on to beat the William Hill League Two outfit 5-0 at home, with Tochi Chukwuani making his debut.

Danny Rohl doesn’t expect Tuur Rommens to be available just yet due to his fitness issue, but while the Wolfsburg loanee appears ready, he won’t be able to help the Glaswegian outfit on 22 January.

Rangers can’t register new signings to Europa League squad

Skov Olsen, Chukwuani and Rommens can’t be registered to the Gers’ Europa League squad just yet.

Daily Record journalist Andy Newport knows there’s a rule allowing teams to replace injured players in their squad, but it doesn’t apply to new signings.

As a result, the Ibrox faithful will have to wait until the Light Blues return to league action against Dundee to see the Danish winger play.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 18 December, Newport said, “I’m led to believe Rangers can’t make any changes to the European squad. They can’t get these new boys in. I’d been thinking that there’s a rule that if you have an injury, you’re allowed to swap one of those guys out. But I don’t think that’s the case with new signings.”

Changes can be made to the Europa League squad for the next round, but the Glaswegian outfit won’t qualify as they sit 33rd with one point after six games.

Rohl should have his full focus on the William Hill Premiership, with renewed hopes among supporters that the Govan side can challenge Hearts and Celtic this season.

Danny Rohl may need one more transfer to beat Hearts and Celtic

Danilo is among those transfer-listed at Ibrox, with the Gers open to listening to offers for the likes of Nedim Bajrami, Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo.

Rangers will surely be looking to offload a few players from their squad after spending a significant sum on winter recruits, and the Brazilian striker’s exit may open doors for a key arrival in G51.

The Light Blues are clearly in desperate need of a reliable goalscorer, and despite Bojan Miovski’s hat-trick against Annan, the need for a new number nine is evident.

Youssef Chermiti has also failed to make a case for himself under Rohl, and a centre-forward may be the missing piece in the Glaswegian outfit’s title charge.
