William Osula: Manchester United’s nemesis makes famous ‘ogbono’ soup

Newcastle United‘s centre-forward, William Osula, came off the bench to confirm Michael Carrick's first loss as a Manchester United manager last night, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Red Devils travelled to St James' Park on the back of six wins from their previous seven games, but they fell short to the Toon Army.

Anthony Gordon broke the deadlock in the additional minutes of the first half from twelve yards after Bruno Fernandes fouled him.

Fernandes would make up for his mistakes a few minutes later, delivering a perfect cross for Casemiro's equaliser.

Gordon Ramsay was given his marching orders in the first half after a false call for a foul in Manchester United's box, diving, although there was no contact from Luke Shaw.

As such, Newcastle United were down to ten men for more than half the game. Eddie Howe sent Osula on in the 85th minute, and five minutes later, the 22-year-old sent a curler past Senne Lammens to seal all three points for the home side.

After the game, the Danish attacker revealed he'd been working on his finishing in training and was glad to pull it off in a big game.

“I was so happy for that [his goal]. It's the best feeling ever. When I came on, I thought I just prayed I was going to score and thank God it happened.

“I was working on cutting in and finishing yesterday in training, so I'm happy the hard work paid off,” Osula said in his post-match presser with TNT Sports.

Born in Denmark to a Danish mother and a Nigerian-French father, who moved to England at a young age. Osula can play for any of the three countries, although he holds French and English passports.

He's also represented Denmark at the youth level and got his maiden call-up to the senior team last year, but an injury saw him pull out of the squad.

Still, the Nigerian genes pop up whenever they can. The Manchester United academy graduate famously refers to himself as a ‘naija' boy, and even speaks a bit of pidgin English from time to time, calling seasoning cubes ‘maggi'.

Osula's teammate, Joe Willock, formerly on Arsenal's books, also testified to the striker's culinary skills as they downed a bowl of pounded yam and Ogbono.

Ogbono soup is a Nigerian meal from the South-Eastern tribe of Nigeria, and is made with ground Ogbono (wild African mango) seeds.
