'It's brilliant' - Ex-SPL chief backs Rangers to complete signing, 'There could be another couple as well'

Rangers could be set for a busy end to the January transfer window with the club still lining up a couple of moves.

That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes this is a good chance for Rangers to win the Scottish Premiership title.

Rangers have submitted a £2.6million bid to sign striker Ryan Naderi, who has scored eight goals in 17 appearances for Hansa Rostock this season.

Danny Rohl’s side have already made three signings in January, including winger Andreas Skov Olsen from Wolfsburg, with Rangers just four points behind leaders Hearts in the title race.

Rangers to make ‘investment’ in final days of January window

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Naderi may not be the only signing Rangers make before the January window shuts.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the Scottish Premiership is “wide open.”

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, look, isn’t it funny how we’re talking about one of the greatest title races in years and suddenly the excitement is in and every weekend everybody’s watching the scores and there’s last minute winners and the whole thing’s fantastic.

Going from complete chaos and disaster, Scottish football, I love you. It’s brilliant. But yes, I do think that the Rangers’ tails are up. Suddenly, we’ve got, you know, peace has broken out, the fan base is loving it, Danny Rohl is the hero.

“And yes, I think this potential new striker that they’re looking at bringing in, could be one that could join. I think there could be another couple as well. They definitely have got the scent of doing this. And I think that Andrew Cavenagh has certainly steadied the ship to a degree.

“I know the 49ers and the whole group behind it have suddenly managed to correct the missteps they made previously and seem to get things stabilised right now and certainly there is a desire to. Why not? I mean it’s wide open. So it is the right chance to move if you can and make some investment.”

Rangers could sanction late January sale

Rangers could allow Danilo to leave the club before the January window closes if a replacement for the 26-year-old can be found.

The forward has only started six games for the Gers in the Scottish Premiership this season, and has fallen down the pecking order lately.

Youssef Chermiti’s long-term future at Rangers is also unclear, with the 21-year-old having not scored since his double against Celtic.
