‘It’s just wrong’ - Ex-PL club CEO slams Chelsea owner Todd Boehly’s approach

Liam Rosenior will need a strong end to the campaign to ensure he remains Chelsea manager next season.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who thinks Rosenior could be sacked if there is a “big collapse” between now and the end of the season.

Rosenior has only been manager at Stamford Bridge since January, but after four successive defeats scrutiny is increasing on the 41-year-old.

Chelsea are on course to miss out on Champions League qualification, whilst their only hopes of silverware rest with the FA Cup.

Rosenior became the sixth manager at Chelsea under BlueCo when he was appointed, and the ownership are also coming under pressure from the fanbase for their management of the club.

Chelsea told to back Liam Rosenior this summer

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Champions League qualification wouldn’t save Rosenior from the sack.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness backs Rosenior to be Chelsea manager at the beginning of next season.

Liam Rosenior’s managerial record at Chelsea in all competitions.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think the Champions League will be the guiding thing.

“I think if he can just have a reasonable finish to the season, they’ll let him build next summer and then judge him going forward. They’ve really got to.

“They can’t keep chopping and changing managers like this. It’s just wrong. I mean they claim they want to get stability within the squad by giving long-term contracts, and yet they’ve chopped and changed managers every season.

“I do think that he’ll get through this and I do expect him to be there for next season, and he’s bright enough to grow and get the experience and learn from it.

“So yeah, I think he’ll be there for next year. But with a caveat that if there’s a big collapse in the next few games, then there might be another inquiry.”

Chelsea set for £60m blow

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Chelsea could lose £60million in revenue if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Blues are currently a point behind fifth-placed Liverpool with seven league matches remaining, whilst Brentford and Everton are also in close pursuit.

Given their record loss of £262m recorded in their 2024-25 financial accounts, Chelsea can not afford to be missing out on chances to increase their revenue.
