'I've done my research' - Ferguson approves Rangers transfer target as Rohl's influence emerges

Danny Rohl continues to earn respect from Barry Ferguson.

Ferguson nearly became the permanent Rangers manager after doing a great job as the interim head coach at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, although Andrew Cavenagh opted to go for Russell Martin instead.

The Gers legend has been hugely impressed with Rohl’s impact since he replaced Martin in October, and he has full faith in him to identify the right players who can improve the Bears.

Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen have all joined Rangers, and there is huge optimism that each of the three new players can hit the ground running.

Rohl still wants to add more players to his squad, which is something that Ferguson approves of as the transfer deadline approaches on 2 February.

Barry Ferguson trusts Danny Rohl’s judgement on Ryan Naderi

Rangers had a £2.6million bid for Naderi rejected by Hansa Rostock earlier this week, despite that fee matching his price tag.

Naderi has since filed a transfer request, and Rostock could bank themselves a record fee if they accept an offer for him.

Of course, there are some concerns over the price tag, given that he plays in the third tier of German football.

However, the 22-year-old’s impressive form this season means he is full of confidence, and it’s clear that Rohl has used his German contacts to identify talented players, with Naderi being the latest example.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 28 January, Ferguson said he believes Naderi has what it takes to succeed in Govan.

He said: “I’ve done my research and he’s highly regarded. He’s German, and we all know where the manager is from.

“Rohl knows people in Germany, so if Rangers are willing to spend £2.6m, then I trust his judgement.

“It would be ideal for Rangers to get another forward in. They need to keep it fresh up top, and it would ease the workload off [Youssef] Chermiti and [Bojan] Miovski.”

The current crop of young players in Germany are full of talent and promise, and according to the Sofascore graphic above, Naderi certainly fits the profile of everything Rohl would want in a forward.

With the transfer window just days away from closing, it’s still unclear if Rangers can get the deal over the line.

What type of striker is Naderi?

Working under Rohl seems to be one of the most attractive prospects in Scotland at the moment.

The Rangers boss is absolutely flying, and he is certainly getting the best he can out of his current squad.

Chermiti and Miovski have impressed in different spells, but it’s clear both strikers are struggling with the pressure and the demands of starting up front for the Light Blues.

Although Naderi is an unknown quantity at this level, there is huge optimism that he could be a success due to his presence in the box.

Journalist Keith Jackson added: “His physicality is impressive, and he’s more of an out-and-out number nine.

“Rangers have made a conscious effort to go for a more physical approach. He looks like he knows where the goal is and could prove to be an aerial threat.”

Only time will tell whether the move goes through, and if it pans out well, then Rohl is the man to thank for using his contacts in Germany to good effect.
