Keith Wyness: Nottingham Forest set for 'seriously big player trading' after £71m news
Nottingham Forest will have to seriously consider the sale of midfielder Elliot Anderson following the release of their financial accounts.
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness has analysed the figures exclusively for Football Insider and what it could mean for Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window.
The Tricky Trees made a £71million loss across the 2024-25 financial year, despite revenue hitting £200m for the first time.
It is a drastic change from the £10.1m profit which the club made across the 2023-24 year, where player sales helped paint a positive financial picture.
Nottingham Forest could make sales this summer, although any transfer plans will depend on whether Vitor Pereira’s side suffer relegation from the Premier League.

‘Big player trading’ expected at Nottingham Forest
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Nottingham Forest’s financial loss is mainly down to player trading.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Anderson could command a “big number” in the transfer market, with the 23-year-old a top target for Manchester City.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It seems to be a lack of player trading compared to seasons before.
“Now if you remember the great Evangelos Marinakis fight about the Morgan Gibbs White situation. Gibbs White had actually been sold, so that loss would have been dramatically reduced. It’s perhaps not as bad as it seems, because they’ve got quality in the squad, even though we know where they are in the table.
“There are players with big valuations in there, like the Elliot Anderson’s and the Gibbs-White’s. And I think that there is assets to be sold, and I do expect some player trading in the summer. Big player trading to be done.
“Elliot Anderson could be a big number. So I’m not unduly concerned.”
Evangelos Marinakis handed stadium warning
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has big plans to expand the City Ground to increase matchday revenue further.
Wyness had previously told Football Insider that Nottingham Forest could sacrifice spending in the transfer market to push ahead with the stadium development.
However, Wyness has warned Marinakis that he needs a winning team on the pitch to ensure any increased stadium is full.
Nottingham Forest have endured a tough Premier League campaign, and selling star players won’t help Marinakis achieve his ambitious objectives for the club.
