Leeds now have perfect chance to swoop in for Axel Disasi amid West Ham revival

Leeds United should be planning to return for Axel Disasi in the summer window as he continues to revive his career on loan at relegation rivals West Ham.

Chelsea loanee Disasi put in another stellar showing for the Hammers on Monday night as they held Crystal Palace to a goalless draw at Selhurst Park.

He is now one of the first names on the team sheet under Nuno Espirito Santo, and looks set to play a vital role in helping West Ham avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

The Frenchman was linked to Leeds in January before West Ham snapped him up from their capital rivals, and Daniel Farke must be impressed with how he has shone in East London over the last few months.

Leeds’ transfer plans are on hold until their Premier League status is confirmed, but they look on course to survive, while the Hammers potentially battle it out against Tottenham until the very last.

Leeds will be a more attractive option than West Ham for Axel Disasi in the summer

Sources revealed to Football Insider at the start of the winter window that Leeds were well-placed to sign Disasi, but they were unable to seal his signature and he later joined the Hammers on deadline day.

Rather than the Whites being beaten to his services, it seemed as if they moved on and targeted additions in other areas as Facundo Buonanotte arrived on loan from Brighton.

They may be somewhat regretting that move following Disasi’s impressive impact on the Hammers’ fortunes over the last three months.

He was at his imperious best once more at Selhurst Park on Monday night, as he made 14 defensive contributions and guided his side to a successive clean sheet in their battle against relegation.

Nuno’s side have kept the most clean sheets in the top flight since Disasi’s arrival (5), and lost just two of the nine league games that he has featured in so far.

West Ham are far from safe, despite their improved form, and relegation would likely rule out any chance of landing the 28-year-old on a permanent deal.

Leeds are set to be a more attractive option this summer, even if the Hammers stay up, with Farke’s side being one of the most in-form teams in the league since the turn of the year.

They must begin to plan to sign Disasi on a permanent deal this summer before more top clubs take notice of his much-improved performances.

Dean Ashton told Leeds exactly why they should sign Disasi on Monday Night Football

Disasi’s form has certainly not gone unnoticed at West Ham, with former striker Ashton singling him out for praise live on Sky Sports‘ Monday Night Football after the Palace clash.

He said: “He’s given (Kostas) Mavropanos a massive amount of confidence. I think he had a point to prove as well, after some doubters, certainly in his Chelsea career.

“Mavropanos was a bit of a mess at the start of the season, and sometimes when you get that player that comes in, that maybe has attributes that you don’t have, pace to get in behind, it means Mavropanos can suddenly be more aggressive, knowing he’s got his centre-back partner that can cover in that way.”

Jamie Carragher went on to herald the Frenchman as “a joy to watch” at the back for the Hammers, with Leeds surely now planning to reignite their interest in his services regardless of whether Nuno’s side survive the drop.
