Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has weighed in on Bruno Fernandes’ performance for Manchester United in their clash against Brentford on Monday night, Soccernet.ng reports.

Michael Carrick’s men secured a hard-fought 2-1 win at Old Trafford, which sealed their 17th Premier League victory of the season and also keeps them on track for a return to the UEFA Champions League next season after a two-year absence.

The Red Devils have been in impressive form, particularly since Carrick’s arrival in January and they now find themselves in a strong position to secure Champions League qualification with just four matches left to play. The turnaround comes after a difficult campaign last season under former head coach Ruben Amorim, when they finished 15th. 

As it has been the case this season, captain Bruno Fernandes made things tick for Manchester United once again, strengthening his case in the PFA Player of the Year conversation. 

The 31-year-old played a key role in both of their goals as they held on a late Brentford fightback to seal victory. His corner kick was flicked on by Harry Maguire for Casemiro to head home the opener, while his brilliant movement and perfectly weighted pass set up Benjamin Sesko for the decisive second goal.

Reacting during the game, Asisat Oshoala expressed her admiration for Fernandes on X following his latest standout performance, where he provided his 19th league assist of the season.

Fernandes’ assist for Sesko took his tally to 19 for the campaign, matching Mezut Ozil on the single-season Premier League record charts. It also puts him within touching distance of the record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne on 20.

The Portuguese playmaker was at the heart of everything, registering five chances and two big chances in the encounter. It was another reminder of his quality this season and he has now been directly involved in 45% of Manchester United’s Premier League goals.

With four games remaining, Fernandes has a real chance of making history by breaking the assist record, which would also strengthen his case for the PFA Player of the Year award.
