Marcus Rashford and Kalvin Phillips react to Dominic Calvert-Lewin accountment at Leeds

Man United and Leeds United players alike took to social media following the latest update about Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Elland Road.

Calvert-Lewin has been tipped for an England return after five years away from the national team, having netted nine goals since joining the Whites on a free transfer in the summer.

Leeds are currently sitting 16th in the Premier League, with five draws in their last seven Premier League games, and most recently knocking Derby County out of the FA Cup.

Daniel Farke has done an incredible job, given that he was on the verge of being sacked just a few weeks ago, and one of his players, especially, is earning their flowers now.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin deserved of Premier League award

Nominated for the December Player of the Month award, Calvert-Lewin has been recognised for his form at Leeds, notching six goals in five games, including a brace against Crystal Palace.

Taking to Instagram (16 January), the official Leeds account wrote: “The awards keep coming! Calvert-Lewin has been voted the Premier League’s Player of the Month for December!”

Reacting to the news, Man United‘s loanee Marcus Rashford and former Leeds star Kalvin Phillips both liked the announcement, joined by the likes of Dan James and darts star Luke Humphries.

The Whites should have earned another three points against Newcastle United, with Calvert-Lewin on target again from the penalty spot, while Brenden Aaronson was also in form on the day.

Calvert-Lewin makes history with new award at Elland Road

Given that Leeds were out of the top division for 17-straight years, the club have obviously found it difficult to make new records, spending all of that time in the Championship.

So it will not be such a surprise to know that Calvert-Lewin is the first Leeds player to win the award since Rio Ferdinand did so in 2001, with Alan Smith and Paul Robinson shortly before.

It also breaks a five-year spell without the Premier League award for the in-form striker, having not won it since September 2020, when he scored five goals to help Everton to an opening three wins of the campaign.

If he can continue this form, Leeds will have no trouble moving up the league, especially with upcoming matches against Fulham and Everton, his former team.

However, it gets much more difficult after that, with fixtures against Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, and Chelsea all lined up.
