Martin Ho makes 'pride' claim as Tottenham Women eye Chelsea response after poor run

Martin Ho insists Tottenham Hotspur Women can reflect on their season with pride despite a difficult run of results as of late.

Spurs have lost their last three matches in the Women’s Super League, starting poorly since returning from the pause, but remain fifth in the standings with three to play.

The Lilywhites are preparing for a huge FA Cup quarter-final clash against Chelsea on Easter Monday, as they look to make one last statement after what has been a campaign full of progress.

While European hopes are gone, the term itself has been a big step forward following on from last season’s 11th place finish.

Tottenham boss Ho has made it clear that recent results should not overshadow the bigger picture.

Martin Ho highlights Tottenham progress despite stuttering form

Since arriving from SK Brann last summer, Ho has overseen a remarkable turnaround in North London.

The club surpassed last season’s tally of 20 points all the way back in January, with Spurs now sitting on 29 points, behind the established elite sides of Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

“We have come a long way off the pitch and on it with the infrastructure and resources around the players,” Ho told the BBC.

“We have come a long way off the pitch and on it with the infrastructure and resources around the players.

“We have put foundations in place that enable us to be successful moving forward and to evolve the squad.”

Despite their recent dip in form, Ho remains confident in the trajectory of his side.

“We can’t let two or three of these results cover up the work we’ve done so far in this short space of time. I think it’s remarkable what we’ve done,” he added.

“There’s been huge progress. We can look at it with a lot of pride.”

The Tottenham manager also pointed to the importance of maintaining belief heading into a key stage of the season, saying: “We can definitely build from this and it’s a good platform.”

Chelsea cup tie offers big chance for Tottenham to prove themselves

West London outfit Chelsea sit second in the WSL standings, nine points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.

The campaign has been described as a transitional one by many associated with the league, but the quality is still there, with their stature in the women’s game going hand in hand with this.

For Spurs, the chance is there to test themselves against one of the league’s elite one last time this season, before they themselves aim to continue pushing for the top spots in the coming years.

With European hopes faded, the FA Cup is the final chance that Spurs have to end the season on a high, with just three league matches remaining.

Unlike recent meetings with Manchester City and Arsenal, Monday’s cup tie has something big on the line for Spurs, in a semi-final spot.

Heading into next term, Ho will be looking to further progress and challenge those at the top on a more consistent basis.

Not only does his side have the chance to test themselves once again, they also have the chance to cause a huge upset at Kingsmeadow in the season’s final months.
